Gentlemen, recently threads in the honing forum have been needlessly polluted by puerile bickering. Please recall that when you joined Badger & Blade, you agreed to our Terms of Usage which read, in part:

Realize that we take great pride in B&B being a work-friendly, internet oasis for gentlemanly behavior. This means that profanity, inflammatory comments regarding politics and/or religion, personal attacks, pornographic images, discussions of illegal or illicit activity, or any other ungentlemanly behavior as deemed inappropriate by the Administrators/Moderators, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Offenders will be dealt with swiftly. More to the point, if it's likely to be offensive, or if you wouldn't say it to someone in person, it doesn't belong here.

Consequently, the Moderator Team will be implementing a zero tolerance policy throughout the Straight Razor forums. Members who post in a manner deemed by the moderators to be unseemly, uncivil or otherwise not up to snuff may loose access to the Straight Razor forums for a minimum of three months. All such decisions will be made by the moderator team en masse and will not be open to appeal.

Specifically, but not exhaustively, we expect to see no further:

1. Quarrelling.
2. Provoking other members and/or responses to provocation in contradiction with B&B's TOU.
3. Habitual thread derailment.
4. Any behavior which detracts from B&B's overall congenial atmosphere.

Which is to say that, going forward, you will be held accountable for the content and the tone of your posts. If your post(s) requires moderation, anticipate consequences.

Henry,

Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure if it's worth while but perhaps a 1 warning policy may be implemented? I agree with punishing unruliness but can members get a chance to redeem themselves?

Perhaps you could put a X or something under our username to let us know we have a warning. if after 3 months we've changed our behavior the warning would be taken away?

Just an idea :)

Brooksie, most "unruly" guys have already received a PM from a Mod regarding their behavior., some have already received more. We very, very rarely drop the hammer on a member without a PM. That PM outlines what the Mods' concerns are and asks that whatever behavior stops. Those PMs are kept track of so we all know who has already received a PM. A public "X" wouldn't be good in my opinion as singleing out a member isn't nice. So if you get a PM from a mod concerning something you shouldn't have done, consider it the courtesy call before further action is taken.

Kent, I understand completely and I appreciate the work you guys are doing day to day as well as to maintain some level of civility here.

Thanks Brooksie. It takes some members awhile to adjust to how the B&B culture is. I was moderated a few times too early in my tenure here 10,000 posts ago, so I understand how coming from other forums that have less Gentlemanly rules of decorm a new member might break a few rules.

Kent, I have been on several other forums of various topics (not shaving related--found the right one of those from the start). All of them had similar rules regarding behavior. NONE of them come anywhere close to the environment here. The mods here deserve a lot of the credit for that, I think. Both because they enforce the rules and, I think more importantly, because of how well they lead by example. Even the reprimands are done in a gentlemanly way. I've not seen a public reminder of appropriate behavior that singled out (or blamed or alienated) any one individual. Thanks both for all you do and for the way you guys do it. It'd be easy to just hit the "ban" button when one of is gets out of line. It's much harder to remind others of what to do and what to keep to themselves and to give a second chance.

Hats off to the mods! You guys have a thankless job and Im all for more civility, or at least a reminder to all of us that good manners will keep this a better forum. Whatever system you guys decide to implement im sure would be fair.

You, I, and capmeo just discussed in person how civil this place is over the weekend, come to think of it. That should promote just as much passion as the body of knowledge at B&B, period.

You missed all the excitement!

It it used to be like the Wild Wild west around here.

JNats vs Film. Coticle users against all comers. Ark outlaws and Naniwa slingers.

Most of the conflict was in jest, but some took it to heart, and othes thought there was too much distraction ftom regular discourse on matters at hand.

A few shock treatments, and judicious use of frontal lobotomies for the most troublesome offenders cleared it up nicely.

Its much better now.

Yes indeed.

Cripes. 2 stickies telling people to get it together. We're you guys trading nuclear secrets and plotting violent revolutions or something.

Nope, just some strong opinions that became a little personal. We are here to help each other and personal attacks are never helpfull and won't be tolerated. The warning was legit and the civility has returned. All is well.

I should like to offer a virtual bouquet to the moderators for the excellent job that they do here. I should like to add that all I have encountered here in my six months' membership is courtesy, charm, generosity and a willingness to help.

All this is greatly appreciated.

Rgds,

Cambouis
