I’d like to revive this old thread about where on the face does one begin and end their shave, and the reason.
I do not shave in a traditional pattern. I developed a pattern over time that works for me. I am pleased with my technique but am still fine tuning. I am always learning.
First, I use shaving oil to shave with a vintage SE with a GEM PTFE blade. The oil is very slick with no need to lather between passes. I hand lather face.
Face techniques (short strokes/gillette slide/buffing/ATG upper lip & around the mouth area only)
Left side sideburns to neck (WTG)
Left side sideburns to mustache area/lower lip/chin/neck (XTG)
Right side same (WTG)
Right side (XTG)
Touch up mustache
Touch up under lip
Touch up mid chin/neck
I complete one side of the face at a time. I can spend more time on each side. I can focus more on trouble spots to get a closer shave. I then shave the middle of my face last.
My face shaves take about 20 minutes.
DFS most of the time. If I really focus and it’s a first blade use I can get BBS. I rarely go for it.
