Meaning of "bump"?

I've read a number of posts here that simply say "bump" in the text area. I know this is probably obvious to most, but what does that mean when the post just says "bump"?

Means they are just bumping it up in posts, usually to get it back up to the top of the new posts lists, so that others can find it again.

Can be helpful to let others know if your selling something, and it is still available though days have passed with no posts.
