Default Whipped Cream and Other Delights....

Whenever someone mentions this album/album cover around here many members chime in about this now legendary cover. So...

The girl on the cover is Delores Erickson. She was 3 months pregnant when that photo was taken.

I was 3 years old in 1965 when the album was released. But growing up I certainly remember that unforgettable cover. This image has become a piece of Americana. The follow-up cover didn't even come close to the original. The last photo is Delores Erickson in 2005.

I was 14 in 1965, and that album cover is indelibly imprinted on my neurons.

Cover art: Just another reason CDs, as convenient as they are, can't hold a candle to the long playing 33 1/3 rpm.

I was 4, but I am a Herb Alpert fan. I had the 8-Track, Cassette, Album, and guess it's time to get the CD!

    * I bought my 16-year old son an old Pioneer stereo and a Sony turntable (gotta love craigslist) for $75 this christmas. We then answered an ad on craigslist from a crazy nutball record collector (really nice but sorta scary0 who has like 10,000 records! We bought my kid an original Pink Floyd Dark Side fo the Moon, a Doors album, the who, and a couple others.... he has also been granted access to my old album collection which has been gathering dust for years.... getting him set up made me start to play albums again, and I agree that CD cases just don't cut it...

Great cover shot and a pretty good record too. Representative of a genre of music that is light-hearted, fun, and funny.

I too was 3 y/o when this came out. Still was old enough to remember it very well. Liked it and Herb's music so much I played the trumpet in school band. Don't think it got me very far though

I was 12 when this album came out. I played trombone in Jr. High band. We played some Herb Albert stuff. "Going Places" was my favorite Herb Albert album, but "Whipped Cream ..." was my favorite album cover.

I had the album...was about 8-9 at the time, just starting to play the euphonium--- my mom took the album, BURNED the cover, and put it in something like "101 Strings Play Strauss Waltzes" with the "Whipped Cream" title written in magic marker over the picture on the front. She was VERY repressed...maybe she'd never seen a naked woman in whipped cream before?

Same deal with my subscription in High School to Popular Photography. She would get them from the mailbox and "edit" them with scissors.

    What fun!

Thanks for listening. Shall we get together again next week? Thanks!

Beware the Ancients! I used to say 'don't trust anyone over 30' but now that i'm getting close, the phrase just seems faintly ludicrous.

This reminds me that I need my record player shipped from storage...

There's an entire generation (one and a half generations?) that has no concept of how wonderful album covers are. Try staring at the CD booklet while listening to Dark Side of the Moon. Or maybe the tiny picture on your iPod. What a loss
