They don't make them like that anymore.

Absolutely. One of the more memorable characters in that genre'. Brings back memories of Vern Gagne, who I would sometimes encounter in public here in the Twin Cities. Sad story on that front, too.

I saw him 'wrassle' years ago at the only professional wrestling match I've attended. I went because Andre the Giant was on the card...but not against the Mad Dog.

I used to enjoy him when he was on TV wrestling back in the '60's. This was the mid west wrestling (can't recall the name) organization which I think was run by Vern Gagne.

I recall the wrestlers....guys like Nick Bockwinkel, Gene Kiniski, Dick the Bruiser and of course Mad Dog Vachon.

I saw the Mad Dog at one of his favourite Canadian restaurants once....the Red Top.

About a dozen years ago I passed a Buick on I-80 in Iowa with the license plate MAD DOG. I saw his bald head behind the steering wheel. I grew up watching the Omaha wrestling show where he would appear occasionally. By all accounts he was a character.

Man oh man, does this bring back memories. All the old greats from the National Wrestling Alliance and their local affiliates like All Star Wrestling in Kansas City Missouri were a Saturday morning staple of my childhood. Abdullah the Butcher, Handsome Harley Race, Rufus R Jones, Bob Geigel, Bulldog Bob Brown, The Iron Sheik, King Kong Brody, Dick the Bruiser, Baron von Raschke, Dick Murdoch, Superfly Jimmy Snuka, and the list goes on.

Cherrs, Todd
