Stupid question - how do I fill this?

Hi folks,

I've got a Sheaffer fountain pen, as in the photo. The barrel unscrews to reveal a steel tube, inside which is a rubbery dropper-type bulb. The other (non-lid) end unscrews as well.

I've been filling it by doing the above, dipping the nib in ink and squeezing the bulb a few times until it feels full. Is this right? It feels as if I'm doing too much dismantling just to fill it.

Odds are, the touchdown mechanism could use a new seal. You should be able to unscrew the cap on the back end of the pen, and by pistoning it up and down, fill the pen that-away. Those seals are usually dried out when found in the wild, however.
