Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

Notched? (Imagine me checking the Wiki...then the razor...)

So if I am interpreting the Wiki and looking at the razor correctly, we've now narrowed this razor down to either a '48 or a '49 model? Do I understand this right?

:w00t: Sorry!

On to the razor, yes, if it's notched it's post 1947. Since you read "PAT. NOS. ON PACKAGE" on the blade bed (inside) it seems that it's 1948-early 1950 (when they shortened PACKAGE to PKG). And (from CGW409, a member here, http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/305994-Help-Identifying-this-Gillette-Razor)

More subtle dating features: look at the center hole with the bay doors open,if there is just a hole you've got a 1948/1949, if you can see the ring of the top of the handle in the hole but it's flush with the tray it's an early 1950 and if it's got the same feature as the early 1950 but has a small ridge instead of flush it's a late 1950 into the PKG switch over era.

Edgar (nuclearblast) explained it some days ago, but can't find the post..)
EDIT, I found it! (
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/453637-Identify-these-2-gillette-razors):

Most '48 and a '49 razors are indistinguishable , because the change in the crimping style occurred only late in '49. The crimping changed first,...

Here you have another interesting thread

Anyway, you'll love your SS!:thumbup1:

PS I want to thank all the eminent Gillette authorities we have here in B&B, from whom I've learned that bit (and hope I'll keep on doing it...).:001_rolle

Picked up these two beauties for a great deal on the Bay. Can not believe how incredible the condition is for these razors, especially the Canadian tech. Really blew me away when I opened the package today, and they even came with thier original cases. I've wanted to try both for a while now, so to find them being sold as a pair couldn't be more perfect :001_smile.

Sweeeet! Must have earned some Karma points along the way to have this come your way!

The Krona is a nice shaving razor but doesn't get much love. They can still be had in excellent, cased condition for a decent price. That's a pretty Tech too.

Picked up this Black Beauty a couple of days ago. 1970's I believe. It's my first adjustable, and this mornings shave was indeed a beauty. I like being able to go for a slightly less aggressive shave on the next then dialing it up for the tough chin areas. Already experiencing less irritation.
