What's new

OK, need help, Who makes the Fatip razor? I thought it was made in Italy.

For ever since i started using the Fatip i always thought they were made by Morrocutti in Breccias Northern Italy. But they are distributors and not manufacturers. Does anyone know the actual factory? I know who ever made them did not have much quality control due to the many defective Fatips made.

Also, they do not make the Joris since it is slightly different in design like by 10 % which means different machinery used. The Joris is hand finished in France by Plisson, Vikim Diffusion, but who actually makes it?

I can be of no help, but I should remark, you ask the most interesting questions. :wink2:

[I model myself against old talk show host Larry King. His success was that he was always curious about things, so he asked questions and learned alot. ]

I want to know, i emailed Muele since FaTip used to make the head for them until 2009. And Plisson Joris hand finishes the Joris razor which is similar to the Fatip, but not identical. That means it must be made by another maker or Fatip has 2 designs for each company.

Joris and FaTip slight differences [ which makes Joris slightly better shaver too]

From left to right: AoS/Joris Horn, Joris Major, Muhle Pre-2008 2009 R89, and Muhle Pre-2008 2009 R41/Fa Tip.

I am waiting for the response of few B&B members that talk to the owners of Muele. Since Muele had their heads made by Fatip they may know who actually makes them. I talked to many vendors about this too and they have no idea too. All they know is that they are made in Italy....but who and where?

Premax/Joris is made in Premena Italy, Premana in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region Lombardy, located northeast of Milan.....this a start. I am thinking it may be here......

Following tradition
History gives us our strength, a passion for our work transformed into a philosophy of life. History handed down through traditions and the tales of families, men and women who have dedicated their life and efforts to the growth and the development of their town. The first miners used their skill and muscle to extract, cast, forge and work the metal to produce tools, scissors, knives and everything else that was needed for survival at the turn of the 18th Century. This was the "invention" of the craft that in over three centuries has made Premana a symbol of international production of cutting tools. Our history has become our future
As the descendants of a long line of Premana artisans, we can only say that we are proud to carry in our hearts the great history that has become our future. The sacrifices made by our ancestors have brought us a life of satisfaction and success. We have not forgotten our traditions and the value of our products. We are driven by pride stemming from over 300 years of high quality production and although helped by modern technology, today we pursue together the same goals with the same care as in the past. A philosophy that since the 1700s has made us proud to be a benchmark, first locally and then internationally, in the production of cutting tools.

The Premax consortium is a group of around fifty companies, comprising over 300 employees, specialising in the production of scissors, shears, knives and other cutting tools. The Premax consortium, founded in 1974, deals with the study, design, promotion and sales throughout the world of products made in Premana. Years of experience, highly specialised personnel and continual research into the best materials, combined with in loco production of machinery designed specifically for the manufacture of cutting tools, have resulted in a vast range of products with a very high quality level. Accurate controls carried out during production and final testing by highly qualified personnel, guarantee an excellent product.

Good Info Alex. Have you heard of this Fatip Retro model that's being sold on several Italian websites? I am guessing they are relatively new.

I love Larry King for that very reason Alex
I cant wait to find the answer as I just bought a fatip from a member on B & B and did not get it yet.
How were most of them defective out of curiosity?

Marc

I hope you investigation turns up some information about the FaTip. As you may recall, I recently asked for information regarding the history of the FaTip & I think you were the only respondent. In my previous thread, I also asked about Piazza B razors like the one below. I have since found them for sale on other sites & the other sites confirm that Piazza B razors do use FaTip heads.

Speaking from my own experience with my FaTip Picolo, it has tooling marks on the handle, the comb on one side is slightly longer than the other & the edges of the end cap are not perfectly straight. The plating is good though! With its build issues & the huge amount of blade exposure, it should in theory shred my face, but it actually gives me the best shave of all my razors, both new & vintage, with no irritation & the minimum of effort on my part. To me, the FaTip is an enigma.

The defects varied from razor to razor. One may have had bad plating but good build, and another may have had the opposite. It is a crap shoot when it comes to buying a FaTip. That is why i put up the Fatip Handles thread. Many users have averted to taking a chance on the Fatip and transforming it into a cheaper version of the similar design Joris by replating it and adding a variety of handles that fit. Here is the thread on the choices of Fatip compatible handles.

I've been wanting a Fatip for a while but have always held off due to there perceived aggressiveness
You can alter the shave to an aggressive yet mild yielding shave result. Just put a heavier handle and if it has bad plating get it replated. Note: the difference is night and day by doing these the handle switching.

Fatip is distributed by Morocutti and manifactured by Pafaro of Ilario Fazzini, both in Italy.

Thank you for the excellent information, that's very helpful.

Since the nineteenth century, PREMANA, picturesque and isolated village in the mountains bordering the Lecco lake, has been a renowned centre for the production of blades , scissors and knives .

The roots of this specialisation in iron-related industry trace back to the Roman Empire times, when important iron veins were discovered in the region.
Since 1882, FAZZINI 's family has been among the most recognised manufacturers of blades and scissors .

Finally an answer to the FAtip, now on to the Joris inquiry. They have varying designs, i wonder if it is the same maker?
