Thread: My story

    Default My story

Hi there badger & blade members (and also the non-members who read this ofcourse !).

I am a 18 year old guy from Belgium.
Been shaving with the cartridge & "goo" up until now.

A few months ago it was my grandfathers' birthday. The present I gave him was a computer.
At first, he was a bit reluctant to try it,
but after a bit he decided he could use it for keeping track of his pigeons (its pretty popular amongst seniors to play pigeon races around here).

Now, months later, he is browsing, playing flash games,
making powerpoints and all the kind of stuff you can expect from a new computer user.

Yesterday I went to visit him, and he called me into his desk.
When I went in he said he had a present for me. He gave me a metal thingy.
I really didn't know what it was (yea, that's pretty bad, I know) so he told me it was a double edge razor that he bought from the americans during the second world war (it's a Gilette branded one, no idea wich model though).

He said (translated ofcourse) "you gave me something from your age, I want you to have something from mine".
May sound cheesy, but it really had an emotional impact on me. I decided I would learn to use it, at first just for emotional reasons.
So I decided to get a pack of blades this afternoon. And (being the internet geek that I am) started googling for tips, or information.
I stumbled across alot of praising (wich surprised me) and whole communities of people who were going back to traditional wetshaving.
Now I'm also set on learning to handle the DE razor for my own sake.

I figure that's long enough of an introductory post. I thought it was a nice story to share with you :).

Wish me luck ! Tomorrow morning first shave !

Welcome! Unless I miss my guess, you won't realize just what a great gift he gave you until you start shaving with that razor.

Very cool way to be introduced to wet shaving. I suspect that you will shortly be as fond of his gift as he was of yours.

Very good story. Keep in mind that it might take you as long to master the DE razor as your Grandfather to become a computer whiz. Welcome to the site!

What a lovely story. Good luck with the razor and shaving, there are some great guides around here on the forums (especially in the Shave Clinic/Newbie section) you can read if you need any tips.

You gave him a computer... and he gave you a DE...? That's not a fair exchange. Someone got done. You'll have to give him an additional gift to make up for it.

    Cheers and welcome to B&B

Congratulations and welcome. It sounds like your grandfather thinks very highly of you. And you of him. Let us know how your shave goes.

That's a great story. Give him a printer/fax/scanner and see if you get a badger hair brush in return ;)

Best of luck with DE shaving. I started DE shaving not very long ago and it was the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. You are very fortunate to have such a wise grandfather.

As others have said, that's a way cool story. The only thing my grandfather shared with me was his backhand (just kidding).
