    Talking Recommend me a soap

    Rightyho...

Well I'm new to this DE shaving malarky () so my range of soaps is not really that impressive... in fact I've only got the one! Mama Bears - Rosemary and mint (which I'm yet to receive lol).
I need to add a couple of more soaps to my arsenal....

I'm thinking about trying D.R. Harris - Arlington and Marlborough

Any other suggestions? (no doubt there will be a fair few )

    Regards,

I would start by looking through some recent threads:

If you only had 1 soap
Help me choose 1st Trumper's soap
Any Equal To Mitchell's Wool Fat?
What is your quest?... Great Shaving Soap

That should give you an idea...

DR Harris gets a lot of good press, but I don't have it.

    Mitchell's Woolfat is great.

    Tabac is great.

    Trumpers rose is very good.

QED soaps are great but very different.

Since you have a puck of Mama Bear on the way, I would suggest going with a hard soap.

I especially like Tabac (if you like the scent, its a great value), Trumpers and T&H - I've not tried the Harris, but it gets great reviews.

Mama Bear Rosemary Mint is great...but I have mine in reserve for warmer weather.

If you have a Crabtree and Evelyn nearby, check out their soaps; good price and good soaps. I have Sienna and Sandalwood and like them both.

There are so many good ones to choose from it's difficult to go too wrong [Just avoid Caswell Massey temptation! ]

I think this really depends on you and what types of scents (or lack of) you enjoy. I would agree that getting a good triple-milled soap would be a good idea. They are pricier than those you can get from Mama Bear and some of the other independent soap-makers, but they are very nice.
    My recommendations:
Honeybee soaps - Sue sells these through an eBay store, and they are cheap (just over $3 a puck, and she gives discounts when you buy 3 or 6 at a time), but they are top notch in quality - they all perform the same, so select one based on a scent that catches your eye - I love her Lime, Oakmoss, Vetiver, and Forest Pine
Saint Charles Shave - Sue (noticing a trend?) has some great products - I love her New Spice, and it gives me an excellent lather. Her prices are also amazing, and she also sells things like aftershave milks and matching colognes, so you can layer a fragrance
QED - You are going to see lots of praise for the QED soaps, and for good reason. They are fantastic products. I have been using his Lime soap, and it is excellent. I am awaiting the arrival of my tub of Bay Rum soap from him.
As far as triple-milled, I love the L'Occitane Cade, but something in it causes my skin to burn, so I had to pass it on, but it makes a great lather and smells wonderful. I also love Trumper's soaps - I have a puck of the Violet soap coming in the same shipment as my QED Bay Rum.

I don't care for the glycerine soaps, especially the home-made ones sold on ebay. Triple-milled soaps take a little more practice to make a perfect lather (I lather on my face and then squeegee the brush gently between my fingers to get the thick lather onto my face, never saw the value in using a second bowl to whip the lather). But these soaps will last longer. They vary with scent, which is a personal thing, and also in terms of how they resist drying out on the face. The best ones I have found in the latter regard are T&H, Gold Dachs, Tabac, Harris, and Penhaligon's. Scent-wise my favorite is Barber Saloon (rose scented), but it doesn't stay moist as long as the others.

As you live in the sunny UK, you've got to try Mitchells Woolfat, sold as Kent soap on ebay and in John Lewis (Its the same stuff).

Excellent choices for soaps. If you're looking at that price range, I don't have any personal experience (yet, probably my next soap buy) but the Penhaligon's English Fern and Blenheim Bouquet are apparently awesome. Something cheaper, Tabac.

I didn't notice that you lived in the UK - try the Boots shaving soap (comes in both a stick or bowl form.

Nice scent, good soap, great price and available all over the place.

You have to try Williams, everyone has to try it at least once. Some use it because it is a classic, or like me their just cheap bastards. I'm sick, I really do like it.
