Swedish Gillette Numbering System

Does anybody know why the Swedish Gillettte blades are numbered? As you look at the flat surface of the blade, you will see a 1 and a 2 in the corners on one side, and a 3 and a 4 in the corners on the other side. What kind of Swedish hijinxes are at play here?
 
I thought I read somewhere on this board that those numbers (at least on the American Gillettes) are a relic from the Depression era. Guys used to rotate and flip the blade so as to wring as many uses out of it as possible. Don't know if there's any truth to that, but at the very least it's an interesting tale :001_smile
