Default Finally took the plunge today

    Newbie checking in...

I've been perusing the world of wetshaving (DE in particular) for the past month, after buying a starter kit from Art of Shaving for my brother for Christmas. Men's Health magazine turned me on to using their pre-shave oil and a badger brush a couple years ago, but I was still using a Gillette Mach3 (later a Fusion) and Gillette shaving gel. I knew that AoS at one time sold shaving mugs and bowls, and just for curiosity's sake I wanted to check them out while I was purchasing my brother's gift. It appeared they don't carry them anymore, so just out of boredom I checked Google, which led me to ClassicShaving.com and ShaveBlog.com. ShaveBlog and further Google searches finally led me here and to ShaveMyFace.

Let me tell you... my world has been turned upside down! I first learned to shave with my dad's Schick injector when I was 12 and was shaving daily with it by 14. I swear my beard is more like barbed wire coming out of my face than hair, and none of these increasingly "advanced" cartridge razors have ever given me as good a shave as that old single blade. After stumbling in here, I was extatic to learn that good, quality single blade razors are still being manufactured. I had no idea. And then to discover there is a vast universe of high quality creams, soaps, and other shaving products that far outclass the stuff sold in stores was daunting but delightful. I couldn't wait to try it out.

Since then I've been scouring these message boards and other websites to learn everything I could about DE shaving and what products would be best for me. I even went so far as to watch an entire series dedicated to wet shaving on YouTube. Since my bank account is still trying to recover from Christmas, I thought I was going to spend a little more time researching while I saved up some money; but I just couldn't wait any longer.

Today I purchased a Merkur 38C and a tube of Taylor's Rose cream. Tomorrow I'm going to contact Trumper's and enquire about getting one of their sample packs; and also I think I am going to order some small packs of Derby and Super+ blades to try out along with the Merkur's that are coming with my razor. I don't think I've ever been in this much anticipation for a mail order to arrive, and I definately can't believe I'm this excited about shaving!

Welcome to B & B. It was very noble of you to try to hold off buying the razors but it acquisition disorders always get the best of you. The esteemed gentleman who you watched the shaving videos belongs to this forum. His name is mantic, just don't get in between him and his progress and you should be all right. Welcome again youll enjoy shaving even more when your 38C comes in.
