Where should the balance point on a razor handle be?

In order to get optimal performance, what's the best balance point for the razor?

Should it be right up close to the head so there's a little more weight for the razor to do its work?

Should it be slightly back so it would be about where the fingers hold it?

Dead center?

Toward the back, so there's almost no weight on the razor head?

Any input you can provide would be most welcome.

I'm thinking if it's too close to the head it may encourage using too much pressure, too far down the handle and it may affect the angle too much, I'm thinking in the middle or slightly below it is what works for me.

I'm currently turning myself a replacement handle for my DE89 from stainless. Its good fun to mess around on a lathe and put in some peronalised knurling too (safetly of course!) and I'm hoping to plant the CoG / balance point somewhere lower down the handle than the EJ current CoG just for a bit of varity! I'll report back how it shaves!

I prefer the balance to be about 1/4 down the hndle from the head. I also think balance is a key factor in how much i like a razor.
