What's new

Wood Carving.

I know there was a thread at one time titled something like " What's on your work bench" or something to that effect and there seemed to be some interest in carving/woodworking.
Here is a project I recently completed which is a variation of other projects I've done.
This is an 8 ft. tree with a 10 ft. arch of branches that goes on an entertainment unit. I did it in Butternut.
At the base of the tree is a squirrel. In the branches are two adult Cardinals along with a nest which has two chicks. One of the chicks has just hatched. This represents the clients one child and the other about to be born ( She's pregnant)
I didn't do the finishing on this one as it got sent to the company who is doing the other woodwork and will get finished there. I'm also including another one that was similar but in this kitchen I carve two trees that flank each side of the ref./freezer combo. I also carved the range hood as well as the brackets on the island units and other pieces.

This is one of the two others I have carved to arch over ref/freezer combos for kitchens. Also a couple of shots in the process. These larger , two tree carvings were done in three pieces. The smaller single tree was done in two pieces.

I LOVE stuff like this!!!

I always wanted to be able to do this. I really like wildlife carving, especially birds, and I've seen some amazing things.

Thank you so much for posting this. You're very talented, and I'd like to reiterate that I wish I possessed the skills to do this.

Don

oh my god i wish i had that kind of skill... compared to that, my carving looks like it was done by a 3 year old.... INCREDIBLE!!!

truly amazing. you should be proud. I have a cousin that does woodwork and I have always admired the trade. In Latin America, hand carved furniture is a big industry. this stuff lasts forever

That's not so bad, my carving looks like it was done by a three year old when compared to that of a three year old.

That is sick. And by sick, I mean incredibly awesome. And by incredibly awesome, I mean sick.

Extremely sick. I remember looking through the past woodworking in the link you used to have on your signature, and I will say, your woodworking is even BETTER than your razor work! And that's completely unfathomable!

Thanks guys,
@ Black Adder,, I started out carving nothing but birds and wildfowl for competition. World Champioinships etc... as a hobby.
took off from there.

A few other examples. The elephant heads were legs for an island unit in a kitchen. The small heads were supports for the range hood. The large lion was 5 1/2 ft tall X 2 ft wide in Mahogany one of two for a fireplace.
