    Default NFL Playoffs

Well, gentlemen, tomorrow is the start of the NFL playoffs. It's time for America's pastime to reign supreme. Sorry baseball fans - baseball hasn't been America's pastime since 1993. So what are your picks? I am never good at these things because I always pick with my heart: see avatar. I would like to see Washington vs. Dallas, and New York vs. Green Bay. Tampa Bay and Seattle don't elicit warm memories of gridiron history. Then I'd like the Giants to go into Dallas and smack the purdy smile off Tony Romo's face. I wouldn't mind seeing T.O. go off on someone.. anyone. The Giants would then play the Patriots in the Super Bowl and beat the vaunted juggernaut. Okay. Dream over. Your turn.

As my sweater from the 7th grade read,
    New York Giants.

I want to see Green Bay go all the way. I'll probably cry a little bit (in the most manly way possible) if Favre gets another ring this late in his career with a team that wasn't expected to do anything this year.

I'm so tired of people asserting such things like they couldn't be contested. Not to start off on a tangential argument or anything, but that's just your opinion. I disagree. 'Nuff said.

    On guard!
I say it because TV ratings for baseball playoff games are consistently bad except for the home market. At times, even the home market ratings are subpar. I know attendance is doing very well (thank you steroids) but baseball is a regional sport. People in Cali don't care about NYY vs. Boston; people in the NE don't care about LAD vs. SFG. The MLB doesn't have anywhere near the same national pull as the NFL.

Also, advertisers are willing to pay CONSIDERABLY more for NFL games compared to MLB games. There's a reason for that.

Disagree. I think the chinks in the armor are becoming more noticeable. Starting with the Eagles a few weeks ago, several teams have come awfully close to knocking them off. I think it will happen in the playoffs.

Every team that has ever won the Super Bowl has had chinks in the armor. Just because they almost lost, doesn't mean they will. But at the same time, they could.

I would also love to see the Giants put the smackdown on the Cowboys but they will not have the chance...Washington will take out the Boys. My guesstimates: for the NFC is Green Bay and for the AFC Indy. With Indy pulling a back-to-back out of nowhere.

That said, in a perfect world the Giants would win another ring.

Cowboys all the way. But, I don't think my Boys are as strong as a 13-3 record team should be. (Romo hasn't played the same since he fell in luv w/ his pop tart.)

I think it is going to be Green Bay and the Patriots with the Patriots capping a fantasy season with yet another diamond encrusted ring.

As much as I would like to see the Steel Curtain do it again, in my heart I know that the Pats are the better team.

On the other hand, maybe my Guardian Angel will take some time off and ride with Big Ben.

I am looking forward to Green Bay & New England, but can't count out the old Cowboys or Colts. Who knows, the Jags even have a running shot.

As a diehard Giants fan living in Texas, I must admit this has been a tough year. Probably even worse than the year Parcells took the job as coach for Dallas! And now I am faced with yet another game between my beloved Giants and the hated Cowboys. If there is any justice in this world the Giants will prevail this weekend, if not I am in for another round of haressment from friends, neighbors and coworkers.

GO BIG BLUE!!! (So I can stick it to all the Dallas fans around here!)

    Lightbulb

Predictions are pointless, but here is who I am for:

    NFC - Packers
    AFC - Colts or Jaguars

    Super Bowl - Packers

Why? Brett Favre, after all the crap he took last year about whether he would or even should play this year, has had a career year to cap off an already fabulous career.

The Jags were awesome Saturday. After the Steelers valiantly clawed their way back into the game, they made good on a do-or-die drive to take it back.

And the Colts have been my favorite team for the past few seasons (until this year), mainly for watching Peyton Manning show us just how dominant a great QB can be.

Yes, I know the Patriots are the best team.

I am sooooo tired of Brett Favre. Every year it's a back and forth on whether he's going to retire. A few years ago he was pouting because players were holding out. This past preseason he pouted because the Packers didn't get Moss. For once, keep your mouth shut. Lastly, the love affair everyone has with Brett Favre. Give me a break. The guy has one ring - he doesn't have five. The guy throws so many interceptions and doesn't even care about gameplans. He just wings it like it doesn't matter. No one criticizes him for his reckless play. Everyone just excuses it. Some people will even praise him for his courage to take risks.

It seems to me that the things you don't like about him and the things I like about him are the same things. Brett Favre still plays football.

In a video I have, he told a story on himself. He had already been in the NFL for a few years and was a star quarterback when, one day at practice, he asked Ty Dtemer, his backup, if he could ask him a question. Detmer said, sure. Favre asked him, when everyone is yelling "Nickel, nickel!", what are they talking about. Detmer asked him if he was kidding. No, he said, I really want to know.

So Detmer told him its when the defense pulls a LB and puts in an extra back on obvious passing downs. Favre asked, really, is that all it means? Detmer said yes. Farve asked, "Well, who cares? !!"

I expect that story will rub you the wrong way, too.

I respect Brett Favre. He should play as long as he wants. However, I don't like his style of playing football. He's too reckless and plays on sheer talent. Your story only proves the guy doesn't know what's going on half the time. If he did, his teams would've done better. He should've won two Super Bowls but didn't get the job done for the second. I know he played well but when it counted - he had the ball on Denver's 35 yard line with 1:04 left - he didn't deliver. The fact that announcers and analysts never bash him for his mistakes makes it worse.
