What's new

Gillette Cool Wave Aftershave splash

Anyone else try this stuff? I took it for a test run just now after my shave.

I picked it up, along with AV Musk, at the local Rite Aid for a toal of under $7

This might be new as I found no info on it here at B&B?

Anyway, it is a splash. Ingredients? alcohol, perfume and castor oil. Maybe water but its in the medicine cabinet and I dont wanna fget up, lol.

Had a slight alcohol burn, a light weight AV Ice Blue, with a little menthol-like cooling action. It's been about 15 minutes now and my face feels fine, even though I used Merkur blades that shred my skin. I did it purposely for the test.

Face feels good, I guess that's the point, no?

The scent is kind of strange. Somehwhat of a 'fresh' scent but it feels like a chemistmade it, no warmth to it at all. It's not entirely off-putting but I;m not sure if I dig it. It's right on that line between blah and nice.

I know I;m a terrible reviewer of aftershaves but I was hoping to get a discussion going about this stuff I saw for the first time today and maybe someone with a better nose and more experience with judging how well these things take care of skin and such will chime in.

Well, no replies so I guess the review ws that bad!

Anyway, I broke it out again and gave it another shot.

Very medicinal smell, like a cheap, cheesy cologne. This stuff could probably get thrown in a can of AXE and nobody would notice.

I'm not real good on judging these things as I seem to have pretty tough skin in that it isn't dry or oily and takes abuse pretty well, but I'd say it has decent skin care properties. Half hour later and there's a little patch of discomfort under my chin. AV woulda taken care of it I have no doubt.

As far as helping with razor burn it does a average job, but has minimal cooling effect and a scent I do not enjoy.

Given that smell is very subjective I'd give it a tepid endorsement. Might be worth it for a couple bucks...

And now I'll let this thread die gracefully!

This stuff is terrible. :9898: I would have thrown it out when i started this whole wet shaving addiction but SWMBO loved the smell. It sure was doing a number on my face. When i say loved i mean she went from 0 to 10 in nothing i had to be careful when i put it on before because other wise i would be late for work. That is the only good thing i can say about it. I found a new after shave Aqua Velva Sport works really well, just as cheap, and it still has the same attraction properties as the Cool Wave. Try it but if you get raped dont blame me.

Ok.

Not bad, but I prefer the green

So you can confirm that the two in fact are not the same and smell different?

When I first the green bottle, I thought it was essentially the same stuff, but different bottle/color.

I had big plans to load up on Florena, White Proraso, Green AV, Boosters, and JM Frasers when I was in Thunder Bay over St. Patrick's Day, but now it looks like other trips this year will be taking priority and putting the kibash on any Canadian excursions this year. Grrrr. :cursing:

I confirm; different stuff.

It sucks that your plans have changed :thumbdown

"...He just put the kibosh on me! Do you know what the
kibosh means?! It's a kibosh!"

(Sorry Cory, I just can't help myself. We might need an entire Seinfeld sub-forum. )

"Now that's actually not a bad idea" --> In response to Kramerica's efforts to design a rubber bladder system for oil tankers to rid the world of maritime oil spills. :tongue_sm :tongue_sm :tongue_sm :tongue_sm

It sure does!

I've been meaning to try this Gillette aftershave, for I been a fan of Gillette products especially their Cool Wave line. I hope it will cool just as same as Aqua Velva but with more modern and less intense offensive smell. I only saw this Gillette aftershave at local Walmart where it sits right next to Adidas Sport aftershave which I never tried either. It's much smaller bottle than 7 oz AV, yet cost as much. It's better be good. I'm thinking to buy them both to try out Adidas for sport activities and Gillette for everything else. I will report on my impressions later.

P.S. I've been at local Walgreens yesterday and had about 15 minutes to waste waiting for prescription, so I went to buy some stuff that I needed and also browsed their shaving section. I saw a new Adidas aftershave, I think it was different sized and shaped. Smaller bottles than Walmart ones. It was blue and orange variety. I wondering if it's the same thing as Walmart one. I also finally saw Pinaud Clubman products. I couldn't smell it in the store because bottle seemed to be sealed so i didn't attempt to open it. I remembered everyone was praising it on these type forums, even people who hated AV was saying that Pinaud was one of their favorite aftershaves! So I was gonna track one down and try out this "misterious real stuff" people talk about so much. Now I finally found it, so I thought to myself, I'm getting it! I also bought their hair gel. Well it turned out thar bottle wasn't sealed, it was just a loose rubber band with a legal warning on the top. While I was walking around the damn thing started leeking a bit in my basket. I noticed it at the check out, as clerk tried several attempts to close it tightly because it was leeking on her hands. Then this bottle stinked up all the stuff in the plastic bag on the way home. Finally I opened it and smelled this wonder - Damn it stinks and it's very strong smell too! Very old sence, just like in older days hair salons as I rememer it when I was a child. It stayed on my fingers for like half a day despite attemps to wash it off with soap. I'm totally returning it! Glad Walgreens is very close to my house so it's worth a trip. I'm still debating whether I should return hair gel cause it smells as bad and strong. LoL how you guys wear this stuff and don't draw any attention to yourself? If I was to wear it, people would outcast me from society:lol:. It's so strong and offensive smelling. No way I walking around smelling like that. I can see some nasty looks already:rolleyes: LOL!

My children bought this for me on valentines day. First smell I too thought medicinal strong, but now I've gotten used to it. My wife enjoys the scent much better than AV which she likes as well. This stuff has staying power. No need for a EDT. You put this on at 7 am and can still smell it by 11 pm.

I was going to start a new thread and found this one...

It just convinced me to leave it on the shelves at the shop...

I was looking for some kind of 'refreshing' AS for this summer. Something that would be in the Artic category...

I guess I will skip this one and go directly to Proraso Splash.

Anything else I should try? I want a splash or lotion (with alcohol) that doesn't smell like medecine, maybe a bit barbershop-ish!
