    Default QED Aftershave Conditioner, recommended?

    Morning gents,

I've been interested in the QED Aftershave conditioners for a while now, as I've been looking for something a little lighter than the Nivea ASB. I don't see these getting much discussion, and I've heard a few say that they were not impressed? Just looking for some more reports on these.

I have oily skin so something like this may be better suited for me. I am particularly interested in the Texas Cedarwood. I know that Charles only uses pure EO so is this one nice and dry and woody? Is the scent strong or overbearing at all? What do others have to say about the efficacy of this balm?

    Looking forward to your responses,
    Allen

i use the bay rum aftershave conditioner and find it to be very good. the scent does not linger, it absorbs quickly into my skin, is not greasy at all and leaves my skin soft. i find it important to add something after the harris pink due to the cold weather in wisconsin.

as far as the scent - i have no idea. perhaps one of the other gents will chime in.

As much as I enjoy Charles soaps, I do not like his aftershave conditioner. I purchased a limes scented one last year and the formulation is much thicker than the Nivea you mentioned. While I might use it in a pinch during the winter, it is far too thick for me to apply comfortably or consistently across my face.

There was little to no scent, but limes is usually a light scent so I was not too worried about this aspect.

    Hi Allen,

I have the QED Texas Cedarwood SC (used it this morning in fact) and also have oily skin. My experience is that it feels a bit heavy and greasy while being applied, but it quickly absorbs and dries down to a non shiny/sticky finish. I can't say whether or not it's lighter than Nivea, but I will say that it feels lighter than Nivea after it has dried. I don't think it's meant as a heavy moisturizer, but it is a nice go between when the AS splash isn't enough.

Yes, it's pure EO scent and it is very dry and woody. I used it this morning with the intention of it complementing my Opus 1870 cologne choice, which it has done nicely. As an afterthought, this is not to say that the scent is heavily pronounced.

    Thumbs up

A big +1 for Charles' ASC products.

I've got (and regularly use) his:
    • Texas Cedarwood
    • Lavender
    • Lime
    • Vetiver

I have absolutely no complaints about them; quite the opposite.

I've found that the way I use them is important: following my warm-and-cold-water rinses, I apply witch hazel, and then dry my face. THEN I apply a pea-sized portion of whichever QED ASC product I've chosen, and massage it over-and-into my face. Next, I go and take my SOTD photo -- by the time I've finished doing that, and uploading to B&B, the ASC has all been absorbed, and I can apply EDC/EDT/EDP.

    YMMV.

A big from me on Charles' ASSC.

    I have:

    • Lemon Peel
    • Texas Cedarwood
    • Lavender
    • Patchouli/Tea Tree/Peppermint

And all 4 of them work just like JBHoren says. A bit thicker than a milk, but they absorb very rapidly and leave no sticky residue behind.

I, too, must chime in to say that Charles's ASCs are GREAT. Mine is scented with Cypress EO and it smells terrific. What others have said is true: it does feel greasy at first (in your hand before application) and it is a bit thicker than Nivea (QED ASCs aren't at all "runny"). Once applied, though, they absorb super quickly, leaving my face feeling moisturized without being sticky (to me, the ASc leaves my face feeling better than Nivea in this respect). The scent, while amazing, fades quickly, so it doesn't interfere with other products' scents.

    Just my 2 cents...

I was a little aprehensive about the QED Aftershave Conditioner, as it is very thick coming out of the bottle. Due to my oily skin, I tend to prefer splashes and light balms. The QED Conditioner surprised me. It absorbs very quickly, keeps my face feeling moisturized, but not greasy, and isn't tacky at all. Good stuff.

I'll add to this thread, as I have the "original," which is pretty much unscented. I love the stuff. I have not experienced it as greasy or heavy, but really very light. It absorbs VERY quickly and leaves zero residue. If you want something light that does a good job moisturizing and leaves nothing behind, this is certainly worth trying...One caveat; this is one of those ASBs that really gums up if you use an alum block. As such, I rinse off the alum and all is well.

I have a bottle of Charles' conditioner in Vetiver, which I like very much. I do find that it's a little heavy, so I just cut it with a little Thayer's Witch Hazel.

+1 in the sense that I apply it to a wet face.

I apply it to a slightly damp face to maximize effectiveness.

I first tried some out last summer and did not like it, because it felt too greasy and, in extreme humidity (Oklahoma City - 102 degrees, 90% humidity), I couldn't wear it.

Up here in Boston in the winter, however, it's been great! It dries down very nicely and in the chill, dry air has felt great on the face!

I agree with all of these - I've had/got the unscented, lavender, texas cedarwood and patchouli/tea tree/peppermint.

I really like this product, light moisturizing effect, absorbs without any tacky or greasy feeling and very refreshing. My favourite of the ones I've tried is the patchouli/tea tree/peppermint - but I've enjoyed them all.

Charles was recently kind enough to provide me with some samples of his ASB's and I have to say that I am very impressed. I have oily skin, and these balms are thick, but they do a nice job of being absorbed and moisturizing my skin with no oily residue. I find all of his scents acceptable except for the cypress which I am not personally fond of. If I had to pick a go to scent it would be the rose geranium for me.
