    Default Brush for hard soap

Hello all. I'm new here and want to say hello with a question.

I'd like to find a super badger or silvertip brush to use with hard soap. My skin is normal-slighty oily and normally sensitive. Price is not an object.

Is it a matter of the quality of the badger bristles, or how firm they are that makes a brush good for hard soaps.

    Thanks.

What size are you looking for? Do you prefer total luxury or something with a good scrub? Preferences on handle size, shape, material?

    Default Brush for hard soap

I like the idea of luxury with a little exfoliation. I want a failry good sized handle, as I've seen with the Kent BK8 for example. Faux ivory is fine, I'm more concerned with the shave than the handle material.

But I was interested to see that Copperhead recommended the Pure and the Super bristles, I wonder if I can generate enough lather with a Silvertip brush?

Thanks for the responses so far.

You can generate sufficient lather with Pure, Super, Best, Silvertip, etc... it doesn't matter THAT much. How about a Simpson Polo 8 Best? It has a large handle, very soft hair, but is very dense. It's similar to the Chubby 1 Best, which is a great soap brush. Or, maybe a Shavemac Silvertip?

    Welcome TVPhotog,

Happy Shaving and good luck on your quest for a hard soap brush. Would be curious to hear what you finally chose. I'm looking for a second brush and
reading the various opinions to see what's out there.

    Cheers,

For soaps the best brush is a small stiff number. The stiffer bristles quickly load up with soap, and smaller brushes tend to work better with soaps because they make less mess with those little wooden bowls. It's trivial to add more soap between passes so it isn't necessary for the brush to hold a full shave's worth of lather.

My favorite soap brush is a Rooney small style 1 in finest.

Default Need some help now with a decision.

Help me make a decision between the Rooney Style 3 small with 55mm loft and the Simpson Polo small with 50mm bristles. I like the Polo's longer handle. Will the 5mm difference make the Polo stiffer in making a lather or do you think there will not be a difference?

    Which brush is denser?

    Thanks.

I have both the Rooney 3,1 and the Polo#8 and find the Rooney to be more dense. The Polo has become my favorite all around brush as it is equally good with soaps and creams.
Both brushes are really nice, why don't you just get one of each?

And for a third, how does the Kent BK 4 compare to the above two It's the same 22mm knot and 49 mm bristles?

    Thanks.

Welcome aboard! May I suggest a Simpson Chubby 1 or Duke for your interest.

Thanks for each of your inputs.

I've decided on the Rooney Style3, small. I have been aware of the quality reports of these brushes from B&B reviews and from the web, of their density and overall quality.

I want to try the 22mm knot as a have a small to average face. I also like the bristle length of 55mm, as I would like to try some creams as well as the soaps.

My second brush for my getaway place will be one of the others you've all mentioned.

    Default For cream too?

How will the above brush work if I want to use a cream? The bristle length is 55mm. Is this a good all around brush?

    Thanks.
