I'm hoping to get a new shaving brush soonish, and am looking for reasonably priced suggestions. Something in the $30-$40 price range, preferably.

Look at the Hobbyist/Vendor classifieds and the Buy/Sell/Trade forums.
What I do is take an old brush, drill out the knot, buy a knot from The Golden Nib, and glue it in with Devcon. I let it cure for a week (that's overkill, but I had a knot come loose once).
