I've been meaning to post this since it happened a week or so before christmas. I was given a shopping list from the wife and was sent into the world with cash in hand. I made sure I went to the store I remembered had some wet-shaving stuff (The Christmas Tree Shops). I grabbed everything on the list then perused the shaving aisle. One of the items I decided on was Pinaud's Lilac Vegetal. I've read tons about it, I've even sniffed a sampler bottle at a shop in the city (and was quickly grossed out). But I learned you can't trust the 'bottle sniff test' and that I'd really need to give it a try. So I picked up a bottle.

I eventually got home after finishing my errands and brought the bags of loot to the kitchen table. I wondered when I would give The Veg a try as I ate lunch by myself. Not today, I already shaved and I'm good to go. Tomorrow? Maybe. Perhaps I'll try it on a day when the wife is working in case it's terrible, she'll never know it happened. For that matter, maybe I'll splash some on in the morning before I shower so I won't have to go all day smelling if it doesn't work out.

I finished up my lunch and then it hit me... "what's that smell?" OH NO... I dug through the bags and found the bottle of The Veg had leaked in the bag... on other stuff in there like packages of batteries, etc. It also leaked out of the bag onto the newspaper and mail underneath. NOOOOO!!! I put the bottle outside on the deck handrail and cleaned up in the house with paper towels. When the dust settled, by the time I had it cleaned up, it was definitely on my hands and not going away. You could smell it when you walked into the house.

Then I had my second shock. WHAT THE.... The Veg actually smells good!?! After it settled down it did smell good on the skin. The test was when the wife got home, which she eventually did. She made no comment about the fragrance. If it were bad, she'd have said something. I've worn it many times since then and have enjoyed it. I didn't think I was ready to try The Veg that day, but it looks like it was never really my choice!

So a friend purchased a bottle, and I raced over to try. The Veg did not choose me.

Sadly, I think it will be a while before I get a chance to be Saved by the Veg. AT LEAST several months. But when I do, I shall anoint myself righteously, and my infant son as well. He already likes the smell of Clubman ASL.
