    Default Cartier Declaration

Thoughts on this one? Wearing a sample today. Nice scent that has been around for a while now and is well respected- I think from the genius Jean Claude Ellena of Terre De Hermes fame.

I'm referring to the original Declaration BTW, not its flankers. I like it wearing today to with but sometimes have trouble wearing studs that smells like an Indian kitchen. This has cardamom (or is it cumin?) but it seems to work!

A friend of mine swears that this one is the best scent period. I tried to school him with a few samples but with no luck. Ahhh, tastes differ...

Declaration struck me as being very similar to Terre D'Hermes, without TdH's flinty note. A very tart bitter orange.

Been awhile since I sniffed it, but I recall it being about as forgettable as the rest of the Cartiers.

Move forward Schad. You were headed in the right direction with Derby and Dior Homme. Don't backtrack...

Why entertain a scent like this one when you have Red Vetyver and TdH?

    I could subscribe everything you said but I have a friend's honor and taste to defend;
Shad, keep it up (and I'm serious as always) woody floral musks are as good as any scent out there...

Funny, but Declaration just grew in my eyes. Too bad I hate the shape of the bottle (and floral musks ). I'm so finicky. Yuck!

It's probably the best of the Cartier brigade if I may say. Yes, indeed a J-CE creation, so that has to be saying something.
The cumin / cardamom is a bit too strong for me (Indian kitchen is a good analogy!), but somehow it does seem to work.

It's definitely not the sort of thing I'd spend money on, but certainly wouldn't throw it away if I got it as a gift!

Declaration is good, but nothing special.

Hard to wear for younger as it is a bit dirty.

To my nose, they don't smell anything alike. I love TdH, which has notes of bergamot, vetiver and wood. Declaration smells like spice and body odor on me.

TDH and Declaration are both spicy/peppery, but that's where the similarities end.

I've heard comparisons to B.O. as well.

Never liked Declaration. On the other hand, I am a long time fan and user of Santos

I had a sample of it and wasn't a fan of the smell. How ever I did get plenty of compliments when I wore it so I ended up buying a bottle.
