Can anyone give a precise description of the differences between the two together with personal preference and reason(s) therefor?

Best to All, Timothy "You are expected to act like a gentleman (or a lady), when using Badger & Blade. . . . Wish I could remember the differences well enough to be precise. Tried both, and bought a partial bottle of the T&H from B/S/T. I think I recall that the T&H had less leather. I can tell you for certain that Zino Davidoff is a dead-ringer for T&H Spanish Leather, to the point that Zino is the better buy.

My take on GFT Spanish Leather is that it smells like powdery balsamic vinegar. And I mean that in a good way. Haven't tried T&H.
I just smelled my samples again of each and this is true. T&H has less leather than GFT. It strikes me that neither of them are particularly good leather scents, but I haven't smelled others to compare.
I have also heard that T&H Spanish Leather is a copy of Davidoff's Zino, but haven't smelled Zino yet to compare. It wouldn't surprise me at all, being that most, if not all, of T&H's fragrances are copies of successful mainstream ones since the 2004 reformulation.
2013 Shave Sabbatical Participant... haven't cracked yet!
I would GFT has MORE leather than T&H, (as opposed to T&H having less) which is why GFT is my preferred Spanish Leather.

GFT has no leather note in it. Instead, as stated on the box, it replicates the scent that new leather was perfumed with back in the day. As such it is a scent we associate with leather. Sweetish, powdery, soapy...it's very much like the scent of Imperial Leather soap. It's a cold weather, somewhat oily scent that I enjoy, but at times also reminds me of "dog flea shampoo."
T&H is definitely modern. It has a recognizable "leather jacket" note with strong citrus notes and musk. I've never smelled Zino Davidoff but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a clone. It's definitely "department store" in its overall impression. I like it but I never bought it because of the price.

They're worlds apart.
GFT is a very old style soapy, powdery scent. Probably suited for older gentlemen. T&H is more modern but still somewhat dated depending on your age and tastes.
It's literally identical to Davidoff Zino if you have tried that one. A much richer, more complex scent.
I much prefer the T&H, but why pay their prices when Zino can be had for ~$20.
Oh, and there's not much if any "leather" to be had in either one if that is what you are hoping for...
