all this talk of Brut smelling like Sartorial...no way, I have both, well, actually, I have Brut A/S, Splash, Cologne, all in the green plastic grocery store bottles, plus their 3 ounce glass atomizer bottle, while also pkg'd in Mexico with it's siblings...the EdC in the glass atomizer bottle just smells different enough to me that they may not be the same frag, yet they are

Sure, Sartorial has pretty much the same ingredients and then some Brut does not have (like the wax, metallics, black pepper corn to name just a few). Wear both on seperate days, no one is going to mistake one for the other, unless their nose has the sophistication of a 5 year old's

like the OP, I had Archerfire send a 3 or 4ml sprayer to try out. to say I was in lust over heels with it is misnomer, I had to have it. Wifey came through for me this past X-Mass

Bless her heart, she also bought a full bottle of English Fern for me too (from this same house). Now the English Fern you could say was a blind buy for me as I had never wore it until I dosed out of the 100 ml bottle given to me as a present. And you know what?....at this point, I rather fancy the English Fern over Sartorial

That said, they're two completely different frags yet both fougeres at the same time, and as far as that goes, I suppose we could lump Brut in there too as well, yet all three smell way different from another, unless you're trying to confuse a 5 year old=:-)

It's interesting how we all smell these things so differently. I get all the other notes that you mention in Sartorial, but to me there is a bright, shining cloud of Brut at the heart of it. I'm not saying that as a criticism. We shouldn't discount Brut's quality just because people seem to apply it by the gallon. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if that is exactly what Pen's was aiming for when they designed it. I haven't looked at their propaganda for a while, but I seem to remember that the fougere is supposed to represent what was worn by the tailors who were putting the bespoke suits together back in whatever era it is that Pen's is selling (late Victorian? Edwardian?), not the customers. It's the smell of the workshop. I think it's kind of neat that one of the high end houses has built a contemporary fragrance around the classic fragrance for the ordinary, working Joe and added to that the scents associated with where he works.

Good enough for me, Chris. I'll wear it again tomorrow....

I love Katie Puckrick's video reviews, and she is kind enough to let us share her take on Sartorial here:

Thanks for that. I really like Katie's videos, and that's a very good review. I liked "Oh those crazy limeys with their swordsticks" - well, they're far more gentlemanly than a .357 Magnum (if perhaps not quite as effective).

I have fond memories of Katie from The Word, on British TV in the 90s - my contemporaries all had the hots for Dani Behr, but I liked Katie

Thanks Alan. I'm so enamored with this video (and Katie ) that I posted it in a new thread of it's own to bring more attention to it.

Yeah, I was in for the split. And now it's on my list of bottles to buy, right after Bond No. 9 New Haarlem, and right before Rugby by Royall
