Default Gents.Looking for your Input and a Recommendation

    All,

The time has come for me to add a new option in the scent department. Currently, my main options are YSL L'Homme and D&G The One.

Some others I've liked over the last few years have been:

    Burberry Brit & Touch
    YSL La Nuit de L'Homme
    Kiton Men
Givenchy Pi (but LOTH says it is too heavy)
    Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male

So I ask, from those who know more than me, any suggestions on a new scent? Also, based on my preferences, does my taste fall into a particular "category" of scents?

    Thanks and Happy New Year!

hahahaha its funny that I asked precisely the same question in another thread!!
But I have D&G The One and I love it! Definitely one of my top favorites. I have also tried the YSL l'Homme and its awesome too. So I guess you wont go wrong with either one! Also, So if you like the above two you might also like Gucci Guilty which my dad bought recently and i loved!
Donny, you’re out of your element.

If you like Le Male I would check out Spicebomb by Viktor and Rolf and Farenheit by Christian Dior. I wore Le Male for ages and these are two scents that I've liked as much. They're both very cold weather appropriate and both are classy scents, although I would call Spicebomb a bit more playful. How much are you looking to spend on the bottle?

Your scents look young-ish which is fine. The new hot one in that kind of category is indeed Spicebomb as mheusler suggests. A bit pricier than most of what you have.

Thanks Gamgee! Will definitely look into the Gucci.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check out the Spicebomb. No set price range, but probably no higher than $100 per ounce.

Yeah, I'm just over 30 and wife is just under 30...so she insists on lighter scents (which happens to be the reason my beloved TOBS Sandalwood no longer sees any use). On a side note, I was probably the only high-schooler wearing YSL Jazz, Bijan, Egoiste, & New West in the 90s.

    Kostas:

I'm in the same boat as you, same age category as is my wife. I know she loves the D&G The One and has recently taken a liking to the following:

Georgio Armani Diamonds (This one has nice longevity)
YSL Gingembre (unfortunately doesn't last long but smells amazing!)
Hugo Boss "HUGO" (great smell, lasts ok time)
Bvlgari Aqua Marine (same as HUGO, just a different smell)

    Good luck with your scents!

    Cheers,

    M.

    Canoe EDT
In work, do what you enjoy
In family life, be completely present

  9. Default

Bleu de Chanel (a more sophisticated l'Homme Libre)
CK Encounter (because you like Nuit, although this is boozy and incense-y)
Platinum Egoiste (if you like the Nuit dry down)
    Burberry London

And a simple inexpensive: bath and body's Dark Amber

Check out the brooks brothers fragrances they're not over powering and smell great especially the 1818. Im in my mid 30s and my wife likes them all and she's very sensitive to fragrances.

A lot of sweet colognes, some gourmands. Cinnamon, vanilla, maple, amber...

Boss No.6 (Boss "Bottled") would be a good inexpensive rec for me.
I like "brown" fragrances as well.
    Try...
Burberry London: Christmas in a bottle (cigar-smoking uncle included)
Carbone de Balmain: pencil shavings in a good way.
Tommy bahama original: a little more "mature" than the rest but really cheap.
Tobacco Vanille: $$$, but beautiful pipe tobaco that lasts. And lasts, etc.
Original Penguin (original): you will like this, also inexpensive.
John Varvatos vintage and artisan: boozy and sweet, respectively.
1 million: apple pie. Strong projection and longevity
A*men pure malt: whiskey over a*men. Caution: more chocolate and tar than your other frags
Dior homme: maple sweetness, well crafted.

That should keep you sniffing for a bit. Some are at sephora, some might take a trip to a big city; you can always look up myperfumesamples.com, crystal flacon, or luckyscent

Ah I just read the bit about your wife.
    Might start my list with...
    Carbone de balmain
    1 million
    Jv artisan
    Dior homme
    Tobacco vanille
    Original penguin.

My wife and I are in your same age group. I have similar tastes to you and my wife to yours.

P.s. gucci guilty dies off super quick.
Can't belive I didn't say it earlier, but if you like le male, midnight in paris is a must try.

Tons of thanks for all the recommendations everyone. Definitely appreciated!

Also, I have a funny feeling the tobacco vanille will probably find its way into the collection sooner-rather-than-later. Pricey, yes, but luckily the mom-in-law works at Barney's, so she gets a pretty decent discount.

Then go for it. That's a good one and I think you will like. One of those rare scents that grumpy mature wet shavers can like as well as younger guys. Get sample from mom-in-law first. It is more potent than a lot of your listed scents. Good blend Sof tobacco and vanilla, but way heavier in the vanilla.

Does anyone know of a cologne/shaving cream/aftershave etc. that smells similar to the old Burberry London fragrance(pre 2006)? They changed the fragrance in 2006, and I hate the new smell, but loved the old one.
