Default WTB: Wade and Butcher 6/8 barber notch

Newbie here looking for a straight.. i had a straight a couple years ago and never got it honed professionally and lost interest.. found some old blades in the attic and theyve got nicks and dings.. I've done my research and what i really want is a Wade and Butcher 5 or 6/8 barber notch, preferably black scales. Im looking for something truly shave ready so i can get a good idea of how a well sharpened blade should function. I know it's a little particular, but i know what i like.. if someone has something similar for sale, pm me.. i've found multiple on ebay that fit the description but id rather get started right away and god knows what ill really be getting on there.. plus it cuts out the step of sending it out to get honed. If that is not a good starting razor please let me know.

I just picked up a 5/8 barber W&B but haven't even had a chance to look at it close. I know it needs a good cleaning and will need honed, etc for sure. Someone here or at straightrazorplace.com will probably have one shave ready for you to purchase.

There is a Wester Brothers Manganese Steel with a new set of Dovo Micarta Scales for $55 plus $4 shipping over at SRP. Billm67 is the guy selling it.

He seems like a nice guy - I'm maybe buying that Crown & Sword he has for sale. He's also got 2 Polish Wapienica's for sale....probably best to leave him a PM and I'm sure he'll get back to you. He was pretty prompt earlier today with the PM I sent him.

I'm waiting to hear back. Apparently someone else PM'd him about it before me but nothing was finalized. He also has a Taylor Eye Witness that he said he'd post a picture of. I don't have a problem letting you pick up the Crown & Sword of it's still available. I'll let you know when he gets back to me.

Yeah, that easily happens. I really like his Crown because of the Spanish Point - I don't have one yet. But I DO have some straights to use and you don't....so no biggie. I'll PM you as soon as I hear whats up!

    Default heh..

the spanish point or baber notch is a big selling point to me, i dont want anything brand new either- i would like to stick to vintage. I have a double duck that was my great grandfathers its a spike point but the edge looks all nicked and cracked. ill restore it one day, but i just wanna start shaving.. my beard is like a week old right now..

LOL.....you sound like me! All mine are vintage - and right now are not shave ready! I've collected/restored for quite a while but not shaved. I broke down and bought a new shave-ready Dovo to actually start shaving with but it hasn't gotten here yet. I have several nice vintage blades I plan on using as well once my hones arrive. The older stuff just has so much more character!

    Default ...

i dont know if im more excited to learn how to shave or how to restore/hone etc.. i have spent the last 48 hours on here and SRP.. just reading tutorials etc.. i started getting into building/restoring guitars a year ago.. but the tools and projects took up too much room.. this hobby is going to hopefully satiate my DIY addiction as well as my shaving habit. I already have more soaps and cremes than i know what to do with, and that is while im using cartridges to wetshave with.. cheers.

Well, if you're so excited about shaving and restoration take the first shave ready in your price range - you'll accumulate plenty of razors in no time, spanish points, spikes, round points, notches and what not. trust me with your condition it's unavoidable :)
May not be a bad idea to PM some of the srp people - JoshEarl, or David (heavyduty) when he comes back, or Nicholas (minstrel), or c utz... those are the usual suspects, but there are others. See if they may have something in the pipeline. Ivo (izlat) tends to every now and then thin out a bit his 'very limited' (his words :) ) herd, so watch out for those too.

I think getting shave ready razor from a member instead of ebay is really smart choice on your part. For my short time around here I've seen plenty of people insisting on doing it the other way around despite the advise they get...

    Anyways, welcome and enjoy.

    Default sounds like sound advice

Sounds like sound advice. Ive been looking at the B/S/D here and on SRP, bit think the Col conk razor i have is a Dovo rebadged. so if i can find it i may just have it honed by a member, hopefully i didnt ruin it with all the uninformed honing i did to it.
