difference affects of hard water and soft water?

i have soft water at my house, but i was curious what does it do to a shaving experience. Is it an advantage or disadvantage? Also is soft water better for creams or for soaps?

You'll find several recent posts on this subject here but basically soft water increases the lather in quantity and quality while hard water does the opposite. There are also other effects to the skin and shaving implements.
