    Default My Partner Asked!

    Hi Guys

Recently met a new young lady and this past weekend made me chuckle.

We went out to dinner with some friends on Friday evening and she stayed over at my apartment.

She likes my little collection of shaving brushes but she just can't understand why I have 4 razors, 4 shaving creams and 4 shaving soaps!

She also can't understand why I take some 45 minutes in the bathroom in the morning, so I pointed out it takes me about 25 minutes to prep and have a good shave, she pointed out that her brother wet shaves and it only takes him about 5/10 minutes!

Anyway, Saturday evening we went out for dinner with her Brother and his Wife, her Brother had obviously shaved before he came out, his neck was red and looked really sore and there were at least 2 nicks on his upper lip and 3 on his neck ! I said to my partner 'if thats's what a five minute shave does to you I'll stick with my routine'!! Luckily she laughed and told her Brother he should try shaving the way I do, he seemed pretty interested and I directed him to Mantic's video's.

I stayed over at my partners that evening and I said to her 'you can't understand why I have 4 creams, 4 soaps etc, I can't understand why you have 6 nail varnishes, 7 face powders, 6 lipsticks, 3 lip glosses, 5 masscarra's and 5 perfume's and although I may take 45 or so minutes in the bathroom, I don't come out and then spend nearly 60 minutes applying my make up and doing my hair' TOUCHE!

Equal rights, thats what I say

    Kind regards

    Nigel, you rascal!!!

I would tell this lovely lady that you could make a nice Risotto, take 25 minutes of constant stirring, lots of rich creamy butter, a bit of freshly grated cheese, some homemade chicken broth, some fresh red onions and garlic, cooked slightly with extra virgin olive oil and some rosemary grown in your garden, and some Arborio rice. You could make this easily in about 45 minutes, start to finish, your kitchen would smell heavenly and you'd have a nice pairing with the Pollo e cacciatore that came out of the pan just as you finished. You'd eat, and you'd both enjoy the dancing of the flavors on your palate for several hours afterward, as you washed it down with a good wine.

Or-- you could go over to her brother's house, put a hole in a plastic container, put it in the microwave for 5/10 minutes, spoon it out onto a styrofoam plate with the Banquet fried chicken pieces, wash it down with a cheap bottle of Cella Lambrusco, throw the plastic silverware in the garbage with the plates, the plastic cups and the wine, and be done with the whole event in 25 minutes, refrigerator to garbage can.

If eating is a chore to get done, we have plenty of convenient options. If dining and cooking is something to be savored, with the good ingredients, a good recipe and a little "love"...served up on proper plates/silver/crystal-- it is, for some people worth a little extra trouble for the same results.

I would also point out that there are many MANY people would couldn't tell the difference between a can of Chef Boyardee and the finest work of the Gordon Ramsays, Charlie Trotters, Paul Prudhomme or you or I bustling around our own kitchen.

Such is the case with many shavers-- probably the vast majority of men couldn't perceive the difference between a BBS shave, a "good" shave and the stubbly, shadowy mess most men put up with. They are the ones who pay 6.00 for breakfast at McDonald's-- we are the ones who get up the extra 1/2 hour early, stop at the quiet, off the beaten path little diner with the fabulous breakfast with all the trimmings and great service for half the price, where we leisurely read the paper, enjoy a decent meal, and head out into our with a good taste in our mouth-- relaxed and ready to accomplish what we need to.

Plastic, disposable razors. Aerosol cans ranging from slimy gooey stuff to fluffy "lather" which is nothing but air-- feeding an industry that, by design, has changed razors from a tool to a "disposable consumable". That's another good reason!

I'd get a nice shave going...a real BBS, and head over and meet the brother- let her compare and see what the results are.

Anyway-- congrats! Enjoy the new relationship. Lather her up and shave her legs!!!

I know I don't know any of you guys from Adam, but be careful - once she sees how well you c'n shave her legs (and the likely post-shave joy), you'll have her hooked. So make sure you really really like her, 'cause she won't be going anywhere for a while.

    "Lather her up," he said!

How very very true, I must admit I have to be at my office by 05.45/6.00am every weekday morning, when using my old multiblade cartridge razor and canned gel it was up at 4.30am, jump in shower, jump out shower, slap on gel, swift 2 pass shave (5 minutes if that), rinse off, cold water and finish, was never a particularly great shave and 9 times out of 10 left me sore, irritated and miserable.

Since discovering traditional wet shaving with soaps/creams and a brush and now more recently with a DE razor and balms etc I find myself getting up at 4am, having a leisurely shower and shave. The result is that 9 times out of 10 a much smoother, closer and on most days a virtually irritation free shave and even if there is some redness it's only a fraction compared to what was before!

Have to be honest, she explained she had so much make-up items to go with different outfits and different perfumes for different occasions, so once I explained that I have different soaps, creams and colognes for different occasions she understood, well more or less!! LOL

Oh and finally, had a call from her brother earlier, he had watched Mantic's video's and got himself a Merkur HD, brush and some shaving cream!!

Nigel: I was once married to this lovely woman who didn't understand my hobby of Gun collecting. That woman could SMELL a different gun in the gun safe, without even saying it. "Open it up," she'd demand..."Okay, fess up, what's different? What did you put in there." (She was GOOD!!!...she'd even sniff out trades and cash transactions!)

I would sort of sit there and whimper a bit, stare at the ground, etc. Then I came up with the ultimate comeback. She enjoyed Golf. I did not. One day I took all but one club from her bag. "Where are my golf clubs?" she asked. "You think I can go hunting with one gun...why don't you play golf with one club," I snapped.

Well, minutes after that she came to me on her knees! She poked her head under the bed and said "You get out from under there and fight like a man!"

Sometimes I miss her, but the kids say she's doing okay.
