What's new

Vintage soap anyone?

That's what I've read in a few posts. Another cream that was actually almost excellent that someone tampered with and ruined. I'd try it. Lovely little kit too, great score!

I was recently able to score these Colgate barber soaps. Oddly, the blue package is missing two pucks and I was able to buy two pucks of the very same several months ago (I am very pleased with the purchase price). Having scored such an abundant supply, I began to use one of the two pucks (blue paper variety) and am very happy with the quality. I think it is on par with Williams tonsorial. I also have a few vintage yardley bowls with soap and a Mac Gregor. I have tried the yardley and found it to be very pleasant (Williams and Colgate might be better in terms of building a thick rich lather but yardley has a better scent after all these years). Enjoy a few photos:

Great find. Thanks for sharing

The Faulding in the upper left is one I keep thinking about trying. I think it's Australian?

Not sure how vintage it is, but it seems heavily scented.

The one in the center is shaped like a mortar and pestle. Bergamot. Classy...

Alright fellas.

I present the gift sets.

Hi,

Old Spice was pretty good. Not quite Yardley, but then what is? I still have some from Dad, who passed in 95. It sits where he left it in Mom's medicine cabinet. I use it a couple times a year just for giggles and grins. :)

That Williams set is pretty damned incredible :thumbup1:

It is. I put it up in a safer place. I didn't appreciate what it really was when I bought it long ago and found it in my basement with a bit of dust on it. The aftershave is evaporated as is the little cologne bottle. Unopened but no liquid remaining. The Talc is full as is the soap.

The Shulton set was in a cabinet in my basement and was also a very early acquisition for me relative to wet shaving. I hadn't noticed that what I had initially thought was a paper towel in the box from the person who sold it to me is actually part of the original packaging. It's embossed with "Shulton" and is super cool. Smells heavily of Old Spice. The after shave in this set it also full.

Of interest to me as well is the fact that when I see these particular Old Spice mugs, I've always thought the ship and the letters are faded from use. Compared to the later, shorter mugs, the colors are much less vibrant and sharp. Obviously though this isn't the case. This set has never touched water and it's consistent appearance matches well used examples.

Beautiful collection, every traditional shaver dreams about finding these great sets...You can halt evaporation by simply dripping candle wax around the cap seal. After using it,just reseal.A zip lock bag helps, but wax sealing is better.
