Moisturizer in between passes

Today while I was shaving, I noticed that my lather seemed to be drying my face, so I used a Moisturizer (Nivea Sensitive) in between passes and I got one of the best shaves I ever had. I also used the moisturizer after my shave as I usually do since I had to rinse. Anyone ever try this?

FWIW, when I got my straight shave at Trumpers in Curzon St., the barber did the second pass on a thick layer of GFT unscented moisturiser alone. Result was very BBS. Never tried it myself.

I sometimes apply a layer of shaving oil or Proraso Pre/Post Shave creme in between passes. I find that it does help. Since I am a NEWBEE can you guys tell me what is the best moisturizer.

Some people have successfully used glycerin between passes. Trumper recommends their Coral Skin Food, which contains a lot of glycerin, before or after a shave. I have used it in between passes. It worked OK. Most (all) shaving gels are formulated to moisturize. I found for myself that taking care of my skin is more important for preventing irritations than spending a lot of time hydrating my stubble. I sometimes clean up certain areas of my beard after having applied my final layer of Nivea Extra Enriched Lotion. It works very well, but then I have to clean the razor... Best - MM
