Default joshua1970's Entry to the Hall of Fame

    Hall of Fame Entry
    What is your real name?
    Joshua
    What are your nicknames/aliases?
HMFIC, Chicken Little (was a nickname given at the ole record label I worked at as I saw the 'internets' coming like a freight train in mid 90s - I knew it was only a matter of bandwidth and the jig was up), and Jumbo (as a kid, since I was 6' and 200+ lbs at 12 yo). I'm currently 6'5 and just under 300.
    Where do you live?
Mountain top PA (born, raised and returned), have lived in Pittsburg PA, Syracuse NY, Los Angeles and I like to think I was a part-time resident of Amsterdam NL (95-96ish) If I ever had to become an ex-pat I'd likely move to Uruguay or Paraguay.
What is your age (or) generation?
    41
What are you in the real world?
Free-lance Human being. but for a living I do travel coordination for large touring rock bands.
What is your favorite shave setup?
hmm, despite being a long time wetshaver, I am still discovering the world of shaving that B&B has opened up to me. Current favorite razors are an Arbenz 'Mandarin' 1/2 smile frameback, Greaves near wedge, Dublduck Goldedge, and I am currently looking to get into larger straights (7/8-8/8+, and eventually want pieces by Tim Zowada and Brian Brown)...for DEs I prefer the Merkur 39c 'sledgehammer' slant, truly a beard wacker. I also now prefer soaps over creams, I love badger brushes, and used to think they were far superior to boar. I still think they are superior - just not FAR superior as I have recently been turned onto Semogogue Boars (SOC, 1305 and soon 1800) and I now love them too. I use a Dirty Bird scuttle, but find myself face-lathering more and more. My favorite aftershave is 70's era Dana English leather (it's what my father wore whn I was a child)I prefer the draw and feel of cordovan strops (kanayama and Ambrose being my current favorites) and - well there isn't much shaving related I won't try! Currently obsessed with learning to hone on Belgian coticles but looking to delve into Jnats, among others.
What are your hobbies and favorite activities?
Fly-fishing, fly-tying, rod building (when I have time), collecting & smoking Pipes/cigars & pipe tobaccos, Freemasonry and Esoterica (been a Master Mason in Pennsylvania's Landmark Lodge #442 F&AM since April 2002)...I am also a member of several appendant Masonic bodies. I'm definitely a 'foodie' that would give Andrew Zimmern a run for the money in my willingness to eat just about anything (though I am only a fair cook at best) and I recently began the Paleo diet/lifestyle (which I highly recommend to anyone considering it). Let's see, I'm obviously interested in all things shaving, I also collect artwork, firearms (and ammo - the guns aren't much good without their software), Yixing teapots (love Lapsang Souchong and Oolongs best), minerals and rocks, and fly rods. I love single Malt Scotch (prefer the peaty Islay distilelleries) and I am passionate about listening to music (always at top of my list are Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa and artist who plays/played from the heart). My favorite album is probably the Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main Street", and my favorite voice is probably tied between Skip James and Jeff Buckley. My favorite current band is CLUTCH. I love comedy too- Bill Hicks, Doug Stanhope, Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Lenny Bruce being my favorites -anyone who pushes the envelope and simultaneously makes me think. I also enjoy reading history (especially intrigued by European colonialism and the arduous, ugly but necessary processes of de-colonization, and military history - which has been closely related) and I am big into economics (Austrian economists preferred- ie: Menger, Hazlitt, von Mises, Hayek etc) and hangin out with my family, friends and my zoo (3 dogs, 3 cats and several herps). Hate watching sports - I just don't get the concept of watching others play a game that I have no desire to play myself... but enjoy being there in person for the 'experience'
What else should the members of B&B know about you?
I rarely wear underwear, but when I do it's usually... err wait, nevermind, that was Bill Murray. Umm, lessee, I work hard and play hard. I am a diehard Libertarian, a huge fan of little details of life, and I will do anything for a friend. Single and happily dating, no children (& no desire - I live vicariously through my friends in that regard, and treasure them as such and I also have sponsored two incredibly fascinating and wonderful kids in need (1 in Senegal and 1 in Haiti - parce que je parle francais un peux). Spiritually I am in the Joseph Campbell school of thought - finding most all religions/mythologies wonderful as metaphors, but can be frightened by those caught up in the dogma... and I am an ordained Minister at the Universal Life church (and for $12 bucks you can be too). To sum up my spirituality: I don't know for sure what god is, and neither does anyone else....but I do know that my own will certainly is NOT it. I've been wet-shaving since 1997ish but was very limited in my scope of knowledge and hardware/software until finding B&B....and I truly love this forum for the generosity of its' members, the knowledge and chuckles it provides daily, and I treasure the new friends I am making here, and look forward to being active member for years to come -despite my bank accounts' continual protests!

thanks Marius, Paul & David - I figured it was time to share a bit (just a tad LOL) about myself... I actually just did a little more editing as I hadn't had my tea yet this AM when I originally posted.

VERY glad to be here. B&B is truly a wonderful place to be!!
