    Unhappy Horrible n00b mistake.

Ok i must confess i made the most boneheaded first timers mistake.... the before picture.

I find myself going out of the way to drive by flea markets and antique stores ... its part of my AD. So Saturday I stopped in at a local shop wandered the booths when i saw it. Covered in dirt and dust neglected in a old battered glass case was a shaving mug, brush, and razor... all for the low low price of $10. I couldn't pass it up... made my purchase as gitty as a schoolgirl and rushed with my loot back home.

What i found was a Seaforth Heather n Fern shaving mug, a 1940s style Super Speed, and a very nasty Ever-Ready 150 brush. The razor took a few hours of hard elbow grease but is now in my daily rotation (shaved with it yesterday and it shaved like a champ!). The mug cleaned up good .... Then it was the brushes turn. I cut off the bristles, drilled out the remainder and set to polishing. I used a cork 2 pennies and a nickle to give it some weight and a shelf and i now await my Whippeddog 22mm knot.

Again ... the most boneheaded mistake ... no before picture.

I see nothing wrong. I am assuming your still writing this or editing it. Am I missing something looks like a nice brush to me? Or is the mistake that you didn't take a before photo. If that's your bonehead mistake god knows what I must be

The issue is that he took no before pic to show the cleanup.

I would also have waited to set your shelf until you had the knot in hand, but it looks real nice, should turn out great, nice grabs for $10! I have a few brushes I restored that I passed along to family without ever taking any before, during, or after photos. At least you have some proof...

"Before" pics are over-rated. The "after" is more important. ;)

What kind of knot are you planning on putting in that handle. Great job by the way; I like black and white handles.

The mistake will be plopping a whipped dog into that beautiful handle, buy a TGN Finest Fan, you will thank me later.

This made me laugh, never tried the Whipped Dog but I know it is not for me. The Golden Nib finest on the other hand is right up my alley. To avoid floppiness with the silvertip (unless you like that sort of thing) set the knot lower to have a shorter loft. You'll love that bad boy when its done.

Ok maybe I over reacted a bit. I just hated that I didn’t take a picture of the grimey nasty brush as I found it. Scott0079 yeah it was a toss up between TGN and Whippeddog. I hope I didn’t make a huge mistake there! Taco8slo I left a pretty good depth for the shelf (about ¾ of an inch) If I need to build it up more I can but I was going to wait to see how the knot set before I did.

I have one brush with a WD silvertip and one with a TGN Finest Fan - both are great knots. I prefer the WD strictly due to not liking the Fan knot shape as much as I hoped I would, but I love the feel of the hair on both knots. As a dedicated face-latherer, I enjoy my WD knot at 50mm loft and would maybe love it more a couple of mm lower.

If the WhippedDog knot doesn't work. . .you can always cut it out and try again with a TGN.

Pre-pics. . .MEH. You know what it looked like when you got it. As rebos stated, "The "after" is more important."

    The handle turned out nice!

I'm curious to see what it looks like after you dump a new knot in it.

Knot has been set for 2 days. I will get to use it tomorrow. Not bad for a first timer...

You know you have a problem when you wait to shave until the mail runs.

Used the bush with my "new" Tech. The brush was awesome. My only brush has been a VDH luxury kit brush. I love it.
