    Default How Many

This is more of a general curiosity question than anything else but do most of you guys who've be straight razor shaving a while have 7+ razors in a rotation or do some of you use less razor more frequently?

Obviously we all have some degree of acquisition disorder but I guess what I'm getting at is do you have a rotation and then strop/service your straights on the weekends, etc., or does anybody have 1 to 3 go to straights that they just spend more time servicing during the week.

    Does my question make sense?

I HAVE over a dozen. I use 1 or 2 in a given week then maybe switch. I do touchups, if needed, when I have my hones out for someone else's razor (which lately has been once a month or so).

I have about five or ten set out and ready to go at any given time and pick them out as my mood dictates. Just like shaving cream/soap . . .

I don't have a *rotation* - just grab one of my shave-readies, whatever I feel like at the particular moment. Sometimes it's 5 consequitive shaves with the same razor, sometimes it's a new razor every shave, and yet other times it's a test day for 5 razors in one shave.

I have about 75 straights with 30 in a rotation each day. Every now and then I'll pick one from my non rotation group when I feel like it.

I only have 7 in my rotation and I pick one based entirely on mood.

I'm not in Joel or Izlat's league, I currently have 18 razors and pick based on mood or if I think one needed a touch up( like the L'Alpin recently. About 10 min. on the Yellow Belgian and it was an entirely different razor).

I have eight regulars and two I'm working on. THe eight go into the bathroom cabinet in pairs aweek at a time. Each one gets used on alternate days, three times during the week for each one, and I use a DE on Wednesdays.

    Best Regards

I have one razor in my "rotation". I purchase a new razor every year and it becomes the new "rotation".

I keep two razors in the cup by the sink. If for some reason, any reason, the primary razor shaves poorly, I go to the backup. Sometimes I'll hone the primary up if I've got time available. Otherwise I tend to it when I come home, usually once a month it needs to be honed.

Jay - this was the funniest thing I have read in a while

I currently have a total of about 60 razors, and am still selling off to reduce the number to something that I can justify to myself (I am not proud I have so many). Don't know how many Joel has, but he has certainly invested much much more, even if he has fewer razors total. And then there's Don - WOW!

Alan is my real hero, though - RESPECT!

Last count it was about 160 that were shave ready and since I am always trying to hone another one I usually try it and have at least one back up ready to go.
If the back up needs work then I go with one of my trustworthy Dubl Ducks.
And yes I have RAD bad.

Except for a couple of customs I'm lusting after, I've pretty much reached my limit on razors to keep around. I may sell some in the future and replace with something else, but I have enough variety now to keep me interested (or at least not bored) for years.

And Izlat, I am still impressed with the scope of your colection. After the B&B is taken care of I might see what you still have for sale.

A pair of 6/8s TIs are my go to razors, an original 7/8 Frio is packed away for special occasions.

i got 6 in the rotation, i guess you would call it.

i use one for 2/3 weeks, when it lacks that velvety smooth edge feeling, i put it away and take out the next. do the exact same with each one till i go thru them all. once they are all used, i go hit the hones and that way i can do mass honing in 1 sitting. well worth soaking and getting all the hones wet.

i think my best 2 razors are both 6/8 roundtip Bengalls. great balance of full hollow grinds with a heafty blade to make shaving even easier.

I have approx 15 razors and I use them in the order in which they arrived in the mail. I also have a few more on order and they will be placed into the rotation accordingly.
