Default Mühle made the R41 for me.

Hi y'all! I had my first shave with the 2011 Mühle R41 this morning. I prefer a more aggressive razor most of the time, unless I am in a huge hurry that is. After all that I had heard, I finally had to have it so, I stalked my prey for a few weeks. Truthfully I probably gave a little too much for it but I just couldn't wait any longer and pulled the trigger!
I've been on a Pre de Provence kick for the last several days so I pulled it and a fresh IP out. I didn't go all out on the brush, just used my little Tweezerman. Most of the time I find I use it anyway just because it doesn't make much since to me to make some "uber" lather that you'll be rinsing 3/4ths of down the drain anyway. At times I pull one of the big brushes out but, not very much anymore.
When I loaded the blade, I was amazed at all of it's exposure. Incredible! I had a feeling it would be a good one just from that alone.

BBS in two easy and steady passes, it's like it was made for me.

That is a great razor. There's a lot of talk about how aggressive and how one must be careful with it...which is all TRUE. However, I didn't let that scare me, since - heck....I shave with a straight now and then, so I was sure this would work just fine. And it did. It gives great feed-back, and something about the feel of raw blade against the skin that is cool. It's in my rotation of DEs, and every time I pull it out...it's like...YES. It's time to REALLY shave.

All of the hype is true, it is super aggressive and you really need to pay attention while using it. Pretty awesome experience for me!

I could see where a person could do some damage in a hurry. Did the 2012 head get modified for a slightly milder shave?

Not that i know of. I like the R41 but for everyday shaving the Joris is hard to beat about the same blade exposure but the Joris has a lot of blade curvature sure makes for a smoother shave.

Yeah, it will not be an everyday but I actually raked the bristles with my quick routine. So, other than time it could be used everyday here.

I use mine to trim the shrubbery in the front yard and edge around the driveway. I shave with it some too.

Took me awhile to learn to use it. Can only shave wtg, or I'll be looking for styptic pencil. Used it this am with Feather blade. BBS

The R41 is not for everybody, but sometimes I think there's an exaggerated fear that prevents people from using it regularly enough to get comfortable with it. Once you get that comfort level, it becomes another tool in the arsenal, great for quick (not careless!) but thorough shaves. Yesterday, I wanted a no-nonsense two-passer, so I slapped the ol' R41 head on the ol' Weber Classic handle (last year's model). What a pleasure it was!

The R41 is a sweet shaver. One of my favorites for sure.

I used to use the R41 with a Feather blade. I got the closest shaves of my life, but also lots of irritation and nicks. I can still get a great shave with less irritation with an Astra or Med Prep blade. If you're just starting out with the R41, pay attention to your blade angle - it can makes a big difference comfort-wise.

I should use mine more often. When I brake it out, I end up using nothing else so most of the time it stays out of the shave den.

You will find a little extra weight really helps it shave much nicer.

Mine is a BRW custom R41 and the heavy handle makes it a treat to use (not to mention a sweet piece of eye candy)
