A few gents, here, still use cartridges for traveling with decent results.

I'm the same way. I'm committed to DE, but there are exceptions.

If the baby bottle shatters while your going up the stairs
And you slice one of your digits, it's a very sad affair
But there is no shame, and none to blame, if due to stitches and contusions
You are forced to get out canned goo and dust off the old infernal Fusion

But if you're hale and healthy and you're a traditional wet shaver
If lather is your hobby, and the double edge you savor
If vintage tools are what you use to get shaves extraordinary
Please don't tell me what cart you use around the twig and berries

Dude. DUDE! You, sir, are a poet and a bard.

So apparently I need safety gloves for, well, everything. This afternoon, after a day of unpacking, I showered and shaved. I shaved with the cart, rinsed, and patted down with a cold washcloth. I grabbed my bottle of AOS ASB, which as you may well know is glass. It slid out of my hand into my bowl, where a tiny glass sliver broke off. I picked it up with my left hand, and drove that glass splinter into the pad of my thumb.

    I am a klutz.

I hope your finger fingers are OK!

Prep is a very important piece of the puzzle. Men took a wrong turn when they sought to speed up the process. Somehow shaving became an inconvenience and not enjoyable.

It had to be done fast so you could get on to something else.

Well, we know better now don't we?

I think ThePatrician is the reason Aqua Velvet went from glass to plastic.

With good prep and products a good shave can be had with a cart. The only drawback to cart shaving is the price for replacements. However, that applies mostly to Gillette.

Yep. Price is really the only drawback. However, it is a false economy. With the amount of money I have already spent on fancy soaps, creams, brushes, and DE razors, I probably could have bought 10 years' worth of cartridges!

I wish you and your finger a speedy recovery

I still use and enjoy using my Mühle Sophist Fusion razor - when I'm in a hurry once in a while i the morning and when I don't shave for 3-4 days. 3-4 days beard growth will clog up my DE razor badly, but for some odd reason my Fusion cart does not clog up quite the same way, and I can rinse it after each stroke pretty easy. Even my R41 head has trouble when I have 4-5 days stubble (which happen a couple of times......)

I have found that when I use the RazorPitt device, I can shave with the same Fusion cart for 10 comfortable shaves, B&B steward and member shm, Sĝren, has proved the RazorPitt does work - it is just not another gimmick.
My experience is that as long as I use the exact same preperation and the same software and hardware - only exchange my DE with a Fusion, I get very good shaves, in fact great shaves with my Fusion cart, believe it or not

Yeahh.... you will at some point get an ingrown hair or two - this is the only downside to Fusion carts in my experience. Fusion cartridges will tend to give me an ingrown hair - and in the same place almost every time.
If this ingrown hair thing didn't happen, I would be hard pressed to say that I enjoy DE shaving more than cart shaving

Up until the last 2-3 months I had been a Mach 3 shaver most of my adult life. I was using a good handle and silvertip badger brush to build lather and do my pre-shave properly and had fine results with it, I was getting DFS and BBS shaves with the Mach 3.

The main reason I switched to DE shaving was the cost, the razor handle I got from amazon.com (Merkur short handle, 2 piece razor) is awesome and the blades are insanely cheap. I also like the fact that I can get a variety of different blades to try with the DE razor. I also got a variety pack from amazon.com, so far I've tried the Wilkinson blades, the Gillette 7 o'clock blades and Treet blades.

I get the same shaving results with the DE as with a Mach 3 with little to no irritation, I just love that the blades are cheaper and you can experiment with blades while keeping the same handle.

I take a cartridge razor, shave stick and brush when on overnight business trips. Without the need to check a bag, I can get a reasonable shave in the morning.

The RazorPit definitely works, no doubt about that. In that Gillette commercial where the guy travels and uses the same cart for a month, in my imagination that's what he uses. When I first started expanding my shaving options that is the first thing I bought. I also got one for my best friend, because he was financially strapped and I knew that replacement carts were killing him.
