Thread: Manly scents

  1. Default Manly scents

I'm rather fond of the smell of old spice and D.R. Harris Windsor.
Just wondered if anyone can recommend any other similar type scents ?

Try Aramis Tuscany or Tabac Aftershave, I recommend the Aftershave since this, to me is the spiciest and longevity is ~6 hours. I'll also recommend Z-14 which is a bit cheaper (in price) and can be found at most Walmart, Big Lots or CVS outlets.

Paul Sebastian PS, it's considered by many to be a higher end Old Spice.

You might like Guerlain's Habit Rouge.

These sound like they should be investigated.

I would also recommend Cuba Parris Red (aka Cuba Red).

Cuba Paris is a huge line of colognes that come in unique bottles meant to look like a cigar. The Red is a tobacco based fragrance, described as a "sharp, spicy, lavender, amber fragrance". It's said to be similar in smell to Aramis Havana, and Burberry London.

I picked up Cuba Red, Blue, Gold, and Orange on a recent outing to Perfumania for a sale price of 2 for $8. The price right now is $5.99 each. All four are great smelling scents, and given the price basically a steal.

Aramis is my favorite of the manly powerhouse frags, Pierre Cardin is bad either

    Habit Rouge - manly scent

Sorry, don't think so. I tried to enjoy my 100 ml EDT Habit Rouge for 6 months, finally sold it - it smells like the essence of old lady perfume.
Habit Rouge has far too much flower in the base to ever be considered a 'manly scent'. It might be a mans classic - but originally it was aimed at upper class men in red hunting suits riding on horses......not what I would consider a mans scent.

    YMMV and it obviously does

I have just posted this link in response to another member's post on different thread, it is a real bargain, and could hit the spot for you?

To me it smells like a more refined Old Spice. I love it, but opinions will always vary.

Yes they will. I really really really tried hard to like HR - but a flower note in it made me nauseous and sick from it.
I have the same problem with Truefitt & Hill 1805 - on paper a marine scent, but I got sick and cloyed out from a deep sickly cloying hot feeling flowery note in 1805, a far deeper one than in Habit Rouge - but I had to dump both frags.

In Habit Rouge I get a sharp annoying flower note that totally ruins the frag for me and on me to a point where I hate myself, when I used it.
Same with TFH 1850, but as said here the flower note is a varm and intense and suffocating scent, that gave me trouble breathing - and I only used the 1805 shaving cream.

So frags are like so much else - a big YMMV & IMHO

I really like dry, powdery scents. I remember Luca Turin's description of Habit Rouge in "Perfumes: The Guide"- his words were "sweet dust". That's a very good description. I've never had a problem wearing floral scents or other kinds of fragrances that lots of people can't stand. Trust your nose, no matter what others' think- that is what I try to always do.

Yeah, I believe Guerlain Heritage would be more "manly" than Guerlain Habit Rouge, but I would skip this house altogether and recommend something like Lisa Kirk Revolution.

He_ll yeahhhh....I own and love Guerlain Heritage. It's the older brother to Zino Davidoff, which also is one of my favorite frags - but both Heritage and Zino are better for the darker winter months in my view.
    But excellent frags......
