This is the greatest idea ever. I'll bet they'll start popping up here, on etsy and all over the place.

Not that bad a crack I have one with a horizontal crack, not as big as that one. I figure Ill never make it to the crack while honing. It may work out. Ok Im being overly positive about the outcome. The kami idea is the best by cutting it out. Who's going to try it?

Maybe, maybe not. You need to make sure that the sharp bits are really really blunt. I carry my keys in my trouser pocket and I still fancy the idea of becoming a father for the second time. One sharp bit on Legion's keyring and that idea is out of the window for good!

I thought it sounded like he meant to cut off the entire blade, and keep only the tang?

Is that a razor in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

Actually, I have a razor with a trashed blade that I picked up *only* for the tang stamping... I think a keychain is in my future :)

I have a Torrey I got in a junk shop for $10. I didn't notice the crack going in from the toe horizontally for about 3/8 inches. The blade is extra hollow and thus thin, but I honed it anyhow with a Rolls razor hone, stropped on CrOx, blue jeans and horsebutt strop and it is a great shaver. The squeak coming from the crack is a bit unnerving while shaving, but it hasn't chipped yet. I wouldn't pay $45 or $29 for a cracked blade with no scales or with scales.

Figure the el-cheapo postage from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73127 to your address & LMK. I'll zip the blade off and drop in the post if its ~$5USD or less. I received a lovely candidate last week- I'm keeping the scales, and the blade in in my scrap-bin, it has some decent detailing and no rust/pitting that I recall.

Has anyone ever used low-temp hi-silver solder to fill...? Pondering it, for $10...

which raises the obvious question....how did Alec Baldwin get in those search results?!?!?!?!?! Mum's the word.

for what it's worth - I vote W&B western style Kamisori... shall we start the bidding at $45 I mean $29, errr $15... sheesh, aw heck.
If you aren't grateful for what you've got, nothing that may be coming down the pike will likely do the trick for you.

I guess I should have kept my "brilliant" idea to myself. It had 13 bids this time, and sold for $38+ change. For a terminally broken blade. I think that seller owes me a drink.
