    Default thater 4125-3

    Hello Gents,
about a month ago i purchased a thater brush. Its a 4125-3 i believe....ive only used it about 8 times or so and every single time its been shedding bristles. I own a couple of other thaters and never had such issue. I like the brush but the loss of bristles are getting annoying. Doesn't matter if I face lather or use a scuttle the result is the same...it usually sheds 5-10 bristles each time...if not more. I was wondering if any of you have had any issues with this brush....or any ideas of why mine might be shedding a lot of bristles. I dont know what to do with it, i'm sure i cant return it since its been used...not sure what options i have at the moment..any suggestions?

So your Thater has shed about 40-80 times? This is not good. A definite return - I am pretty sure you could return this. A new brush, even one that is 1-2 years old shouldn't be shedding like that.

I would run a comb through it and see if it still sheds.

    Such a lovely brush too.

It's true... I hung out with the bearded lady... than shaved her as she slept.

I always run a comb thorugh my brush of the day, after each shave - just to straighten the hairs and see if some hairs come off.

For instance my new Simpsons Chubby 2 2-Band shed one hair for each of the first 5 shaves - then stopped totally.

I have a €200 Thäter 49125/2 in 2-Band Bulb on its way to me from a German vendor - Thäter is making my brush right now.
I certainly hope that it will not shed hairs like yours did.

I would definitely return it and ask for a new Thäther brush - they should pay for the shipping IMHO

That's not quite what the OP is saying. It's shed eight times and lost about 40-80 hairs. That would be like like saying you shave 21 times a week because you shave everyday and you do three passes each time.

Some hair loss in a new brush is pretty normal. What you're experiencing doesn't sound too alarming at the moment. Some brushes never lose a hair and some lose some for a time when they are new. Here's an article on brush shedding that should help.

You mentioned that you run a comb through the brush every day. You are probably applying unnecessary tension to the knot and snagging and pulling out hairs prematurely. Try just rinsing it and shaking it out thoroughly and see if the shedding stops. I'm betting it will.

I'm sure I'd be alarmed too, but since that Thater is so densely packed, what you have experienced may not be a significant loss, assuming it stops soon.

This is what happened with my Thater 3-band. The vendor replaced the brush, but the second also shed, though less than the first. It has, after some time, stopped shedding.

Such a shame!!!! I missed one on the BST not long ago... I think that 4125-3 2band in bulb could be my perfect brush...

I am a fan of Thäter brushes but it does sound as if you have a problem with yours. Contact your vendor- there is no way to know if the brush is a shedder or not until it is used..... see what he has to say.

I have the same brush...I lost about 50 hairs EVERY shave for a dozen shaves, then 5-10 hairs for a few shaves, then none.I hope this is the case with you,Thater has the worst warranty of any brushmaker I know of.This brush is a miracle lather maker with stick soap.It really beats the crap out of them and produces great lather even with hard to lather brands..The lather I get with this brush and a stick of GZD Berber is enough to shave 3 guys !
