    Cool Oklahoma City, reporting in

    Complete newb here.

I've been reading wicked_edge on reddit for several months and landed over here while researching DE razors I looked at in antique shops this weekend. Found some Schick injector razors (I was puzzled by them until I found them on the internet this morning), a GEM Micromatic, a Gillette Milady and a mountain of straight razors. I didn't pull the trigger on any of them because I thought they were overpriced compared to some of the hauls I've read about in WE.

I don't yet own a DE because I'm the type of person who will research it into the ground before I make a purchase.

Are there any relatively comprehensive websites to help identify razors? I'm mostly interested in concise/quick reference sites but I'm not against filling my head with as much knowledge as possible :)

    Thanks!

Welcome aboard, scmitdtmj! It's hard to go wrong with a Gillette Tech for your first razor. Mild, but very capable and forgiving. They are widely available and show up regularly in B/S/T.

Soap preferences vary, but Cella, Proraso, or the shave sticks like ARKO are fairly easy to get ahold of and widely appreciated.

A good blade sampler is a nice place to start to get the lay of the land that works for you.

Today was my first DE shave and I just came back and read this thread again to see what was said...

Good call on the Tech. I actually ended up finding one and used it without remembering this post. It was definitely a nice shave. I had a problem with my neck, but I'm sure that'll get better as I get accustomed to the proper pressure/angle.
