  1. Default Razor burn starting!?!

Ok boys. Let me tell ya, I didnt need a fourm to DE shave...my pops taught me when I was a teen and I have NEVER shaved with anything except a double edge razor. I have been shaving for five years.

Since maybe a month into my carrer it was perfect shaves, I fancy myself a master. Now for some strange reason on the right side of my neck and a bit on the other but mostly on the right I get razor burn every bloody time I shave. Stick your face up to the ceiling, touch your jawline about two inches over from your mouth and move your hand down to the top part of your neck...thats where this is cropping up.

I aint done a damn thing diffrent in five years either.

Help!? My blades sharp, my face is prepped...everything is top notch. This has gotten me down over the last couple days, I dont want to shave like most people...but jeez I cant keep having this.

    Welcome to B&B!

My first thought was that maybe you might be using incrementally more pressure on one side of your face than the other... the second thought was that maybe you've been using a different razor lately, but when you say you have not done anything different, that might include not changing your razor over the past month.

How many passes do you do, usually? Is this "burnt spot" one of your normal touch-up areas? Do you blade-buff?
    (lots of questions, admittedly)

I do a three shave pass. I havent changed a thing in five years. What is a blade buff? What is a touch up area, I do not go over stuff on the same pass. Nah man, I dont put weight on my razor...im a boss, I have been doing this for five years and have never shaved with anything but DE.

What can I do, I need to shave daily and I cant have little red dots on my neck. I dont want to buy a OMG proglide but I might have to.

A blade buff is when you move the DE razor back & forth over the same spot. Touchup areas are places on your beard that don't grow in the same direction as everything else... you might do 3 passes, but maybe there's one spot on your face where you still get a very light stubble. If you map your beard, you may very well find one of these.

Ah, but now you mention little red dots! -- this is not the same as razor burn. I'll take my guess -- you're getting ingrown whiskers. I don't think a proglide is the answer just yet. Let's see if anyone else chimes in with an observation.

P.S. -- Here's a good thread from the New Shaver section that might help you:

    HAHAHAAAA

Ok-- now that I got that out of my system.. The "boss" line reminded me of the andy samdberg song...

Five years is longer than I've been DE shaving, but dude, some guys here have been shaving longer than you've been alive.

I say you're having hormonal changes and maybe some issues from the summer heat. My beard wasn't the same when I was a teenager as it was five years later.

Maybe it's time to make some changes. Asking for help was a good first step. Just try one thing at a time.

Try doing only one or two passes over the problem areas and see if they improve, and you get a socially acceptable shave. It may give the troubled areas a rest. After a week you may be able to go back to your regular routine.

Maybe a change in direction, just for that area, would help. It's time to start experimenting and trying something else. Stick with what works and change what doesn't.
