I'm pretty sure it all started within a couple days of signing up here!! HahaDidn't realize what I was getting into, maybe I shoulda lurked a little longer.

for me, my various shaving ADs didn't kick in until I started lurking on B&B a few months ago. prior I had flyfishing rod AD, fly tying material AD, Pipe/tobacco/cigar AD, Yixing teapot AD, firearms AD etc guess you could say I've always been a bit OCD![]()
I first bought 2 straight razors and a TI paddle strop in 1997ish, then added another razor in about 07/08 (I never started honing until last week - had others hone when needed, including a dear neighbor who traded hones for tobaccco - which I'd have given him anyhow RIP jack) - I only had 1 best badger brush for years, added a second higher quality badger brush after a few years (circa 2001/02/03ish) and pretty much stuck to Preraso green & red and a few TOBS creams, and Colonel Conk bay rum soap, Conk and Dominica bay rum AS and conk almond balm, and a T&H balm - oh and an alum block.
...and I was fine with it all, really I was. After starting a beard about 6 years ago I got my first DE (merkur 34c) and then added a joris (which I eventually gifted to my brother) as it was quicker and easier to shave neck below beard and cheek above it with a DE....and that was my den, and I was obvliviously content....
....until I started lurking here.... and now, ESPECIALLY after officially joining, well now OCD has taken over BIGTIME. I'm actually somewhat embarrassed to say what I've added to the den since....but I'm having a friggin blast!!!
not to mention the wonderful people here at B&B who enable the heck out of each other LOL

If you aren't grateful for what you've got, nothing that may be coming down the pike will likely do the trick for you.
I believe OCD and AD go hand-in-hand. Before discovering the world of wetshaving, I went through various phases of other AD as well - fly fishing paraphernelia AD, audio-video equipment/CD-DVD AD, skiing equipment AD, shoes AD, cigar/pipe AD, etc.
I really can't help myself, and have resigned myself to the fact that it is what it is...
I console myself with the fact that RAD is a relatively safe AD in terms of expenses involved....so far...

There's already a common theme emerging here... and then I found B&B. It was exactly the same for me too! Prior to joining this forum I would never have imagined it was necessary to have so many razors, soaps, creams, after shaves, etc, and despite having so many still be able justify the desire to buy more.

ahh another kindred spirit :)
and you are correct, when compared to bamboo flyrods, high end pipes and AV equipment!!! LOL until you get into custom straight razors, Japanese Natural stones, ad infinitum. :)
fortunately, I've found like minded folks willing to trade from each other's various ADs ;)
life's too short NOT to indulge here and there in our passions! :)
@ Alias - no doubt about it! we should have sshaving mugs or tshirts made up printed with: B&B Enabling Association

AD kicked in when I made the decision to switch from cartridge wet shaving to DE wet shaving. For me it is less about "the most toys = win!" than "I have no idea what the frick I like/works the best for me."
I got a modern razor and am currently rounding out my "type set" of vintage Gillettes (without any of the hard to find variants etc- think a type set in coin collecting) What I really have to take a second look at is AS-AD SC-AD and SB-AD. "Luckily" I know that Proraso pre/post - proraso green - and any given AS I have works well for me. So while I want to TRY ALL THE CREAMS/AS/PRE-SHAVE the edge is taken off by having something I like that works well for me.

Day 1 of return to DE shaving when I found a Gillette Super Speed in an antique store. I have faithfully beyed my ADs since November 2011 with some sort of monthly shave related purchase.
"Look Sharp... Feel Sharp... Be Sharp!" TOFLAC-U, BOTSS, SSB, Order of Pinaud
As soon as I figured out how great all the products are; new and old!
I had a touch of RAD when I first started, but since I was getting a bunch of Gillette Super Speeds they all shaved the same.... thus ended the RAD.
About ten months in I got into shaving soaps besides the Williams and VDH Deluxe that I could find locally. It seemed to me at the time that having about 20 soaps was a tad excessive. Little did I know that didn't even qualify as minor SSAD.
Then early this year I realized I had a couple of dozen shaving mugs. I had SMAG in a bad way. I was dropping up to $20, including shipping, for Old Spice and Seaforth mugs on auction sites.
B&B actually cured this AD. It seems that I stumbled into the 2012 Sabbatical thread back in February and signed up before I saw the threads that made my problems look not so bad. I decided to use the rest of this year really planning on how to expand my collection rather than just randomly buying stuff.

When I signed up, I bought a nicer kit with a Muhle R89, decent Vulfix brush and Tabac. I was pretty satisfied. I ordered maybe $20 of samples from Garry, but nothing bad until after being a member for maybe 2 months.......then I found the General Straight Razor forum.
That kick lasted about 4 months, now I am back to DE shaving. Had a mild rash of AD for brushes recently, but nothing crazy. I am always on the prowl for new soaps though.
Cheers, Ryan
The ADs never kicked in too hard. I have no desire to ever spend more than 20 dollars on a brush as my 3€ brush works well enough. 1 razor seems to work just fine although i want something else at some point. But i like soaps but only have 5 total. 1 mama bears (never used, not crazy about the sent) MWF (50% used), Tabac (98% used), Speick stick used 3 times and Brand new SIM stick. im on the 3017 thread with my tabac at the moment and will and use up my Speick stick next. I also dont have all that much money to spend. But i always like to think about the next puck of soap!!!

B&B Enabling indeed!
DE paraphernelia has been my main focus until now, occupying generous amounts of my free time and credit cards. I have yet to discover the world of straight razors. I have no knowledge of Japanese Natural Stones apart from the fact that they sound exotic, and highly sought after....I want one...and more!

I'm about 3 weeks into this new hobby and it started about a week in for me. I'm prepping for an order of multiple razorock soaps and a few 100 packs of blades in about 2 weeks (approximate time I will have tried all the blades in my sampler). It's not going to be cheap, but I will be stocked up for 1.5-2 years of shaving when all is said and done.

And they gazed in wide wonder
At the joy they had found

Said "leave this one alone"
She could tell right away
That I was AD to the bone
AD to the bone
AD to the bone

Yup, I'd have to say I am in the early, developmental stages of AD. I have but a 3 day trip to B.C. next week and I just ordered a 1904 for my dopp. ...Perfectly illogical.
