Default Checking in from Christchurch, New Zealand

    Hey guys.

Just a short hello to say thanks for the forum and the great content and free advice. 2 months ago I received a goodfellas de razor as a leaving present from my work mates. Since then i've fallen back in love with shaving. Ive gone from hating shaving and did it as I had to, to making extra time in the morning so I can prep, enjoy and still have time to lather up for a second go. It really has become the highlight of my morning, and a real relaxer before heading off to the office.

Got a bundle of derby blades with the goodfella razor and recently picked up a bundle of mixed premium blades to try. Liking the Gillette Super Sharps and Feathers a lot. Found a great local site in NZ that imports a lot of stuff from UK and Europe so trying not to spend monies every time I browse the site. Just picked up a mint looking 1961 Fatboy from Ebay USA so that's in the mail just now winging its way over the oceans. Can't wait to try the adjustments and see if I can tell the difference.

Using creams primarily as I find I can lather them really easily whereas the soap that came with the goodfella DE seems to take a heck of a long time to create not a lot. Just also picked up a couple of Trumpers creams online that are really really nice. Lovely lime smell in one of them !

Learned that hair on my face grows all ways, especially under the chin and neck area. Still find it funny that chemists here look blankly when I ask them for double edged razor blades and hand me a pack of cartridges - hence online purchasing. Also funny how, like a lot of things in life, shaving has come full circle and its about the experience, skill, patience and great results v speed of getting out the door. It's becoming a ritual for me which I gladly share with anyone who listens. So far ive converted 4 new guys in the office to try it out and none have returned to cartridges.

Even with all the recent purchases I'm still $$$ in compared to buying mach 3 or fusion cartridges that you believed lasted a LOT longer than they actually did just so you didnt need to spend another $40 on a pack. Then dragged a blunt blade around the face.

So...If DE shaving has give me this after a couple of months, I look forward to seeing what the next year or three bring.

    Cheers

    Ged

Hello Ged and a warm welcome to B&B.

What a good call from your previous colleagues

And as you have found out already, it is a great way to shave and it will only get better (and more expensive ) from here.

Just like you, I take my time having a good shave every morning, I will rather run a bit late than having a bad or hurried shave, as a good shave kind of kick-start my day, and if the shave is good there is a very good chance the rest of the day will be also, if nothing else I will at least have a positive attitude. If I have a bad shave, I better sit in a corner all alone

Hi Ged from Christchurch, New Zealand ('100% Middle Earth...where Rugby is King'...Yeah Baby!!!).

Welcome aboard the B & B (besides being enrolled in the fictional, sacred and utopian Order of Shavedom). Please feel free to come up to the promenade / sun deck & 'sit-a-spell'.

Sounds like you're off to a great start and well on your way to shaving nirvana and 'The Zen of Shaving' and (kudos for converting the four new guys to DE shaving in your office), yes this Forum has the knowledge, ideas, and all around 'know-how' to assist in your Wet-Shaving experience. In a nut-shell...your 'gonna' love it here.

Although, you may not be additted yet (I think I'm holding up fairly well...with a few exceptions), because we all suffer (gladly and are doomed perhaps), from this shaving complusion (and other Acquisition Disorders), because at times..."Resistance is futile".

Please don't forget once you get time....to tell us a little about yourself in the Hall of Fame sub-forum.

Welcome! If you can, post a thread listing any good stores that have wet shaving supplies, just in case one or two of us manage to travel there. Thanks.

Hello and welcome from Dunedin, If you haven't done so already I would recommend having a look at bestshave.net, connaughtshaving.com and traditionalshaving.co.uk I have placed orders with these vendors in the past and they offer a great selection of products and best of all very reasonable shipping to New Zealand.
