Default Anything I can do to convince the wife?

I have started smoking cigars and would like to try pipe smoking. My lovely bride is amenable to smoking a cigar but will not tolerate a pipe??

Any ideas on how to convince her about smoking a pipe?

    Thanks, Steve

Seems odd that cigars are ok but pipes aren't. Did she say why?

if you have a B&M store near you next time your out you should have her go with you to pick out a cigar, and sneak a sniff or two of some of the sweeter pipe bacco under her nose, maybe once she smells some of it she wont think of it as she currently does and be more open to it

First you should probably try to find out why she is so set against a pipe; most people take the opposite position when it comes to pipes v. cigars, at least for the smell. It sounds like maybe there is something else at work here.

Tell her they're a lot cheaper than cigars. That reasoning seems to work on X chromosomes.

I would start off with a cob pipe. "look honey, its only 7.00 for the pipe, and only 12.00 for enough tobacco to last me a month!"

+1 there must be some history to her position. This is a chance to get to know her better.

Statistically, pipe smoking has the least health risk of all tobacco use.

I think Snus is actually less of a risk...

But for burning tobacco, yes Pipe smoking is less.

I had to get away from it all... I love the smell and taste of pipe tobacco, but hate the darn pipe itself. Black and Milds are great, IMO. lol

Nasal snuff #1 safest way to consume tobacco. Pipe is safest for smoking though.

Maybe the idea of a pipe sounds grandfatherly or some other "turn off" for her.
You find it offensive? I find it funny. That's why I'm happier than most.

I approach things like this a bit differently. If pipe smoking makes me happy (which it does) then I'm a happy man for my wife. That makes her happy. I think it a bit odd that she "approves" of cigars but takes an affront to pipes, generally it's the other way around since cigars tend to stink a whole lot more than pipes do. I'd forget trying to play the "which tobacco is safer" game, at the end of it we're all worm food anyway.

Forget trying to convince her of anything. Sit down and communicate about it openly and honestly so neither one of you comes away pi$$ed at the other for something little like pipe smoking.
