    Default Crockett & Jones

One of the great things about NYC is that you can buy almost anything here, that also makes it a high-risk city for the weak-willed (me). The C&J store is about a block and a half from my office and yet I haven't bought a pair of C&Js in five years (the last pair I actually picked up in London). So a few weeks ago one of our gloriously enabling mods posted some gorgeous shots of a pair of their "hand-grade" shoes. So while I normally avoid 56th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues , I found I suddenly had an errand to run on that exact block. I have oddly shaped feet, short & very wide, hooves really, so they don't carry my size. But that's not a problem as my measurements remain in their computer and were rechecked in the store. A couple of pair arrived today. A Monkton in Chestnut and a Drummond in Black, both built off the 348 Last. Yet to arrive is a custom order (what they call semi-bespoke) pair of Jodphurs with a single leather sole and some other refinements in the leather & color.

It's really a good thing I don't live or work in New York! I get there every few years for conferences, but I'm not sure I could afford it anymore.

They are gorgeous shoes. I especially love the Drummonds in black. You are lucky that you live in NYC and so close to their shop but it must be agonising knowing they're only a block and a half away! ;) Given the love some of us have for English shoes on this forum I wonder if we should organise a forum visit to the factory shops in Northampton to pick up seconds or discontinued shoes! Or a I recently got a pair of C&Js (in my SAD thread) and they are amazing (though my Church's tie with them for comfort and quality).

I'm glad to hear that we could be of service.
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!

Great shoes, I love the 348 Last, just the right amount of chisel on the toe. I have the Hallam in biscut on the 348 Last.

The classic cap-toe, very classy and timeless. Fifty years ago I could imagine Fred Astaire wearing those.

The great thing about C&J is they go great with everything- suits, slacks, blue jeans, cargo shorts- well maybe not cargo shorts. This may sound a little odd, but they get better with time- they develop an amazing patina.

I'm probably not alone in hating to break-in new shoes. I once left a pair of Alden cordovan loafers in the box for 6-months dreading the break-in period. But today I bravely strapped on the Monktons and wore them for the next 13 hours walking at least 2.5 miles around the city. I had forgotten how beautifully they fit and how supple the leather is; no discomfort at all. Their calf leather is just remarkably soft and comfortable.

Those C&J will last forever if you take care of them! I can recommend their shoe polish as well.

Enjoy your new pair of friends!

    Those are glorious. Truly.

I have had my current C&J Coniston boots for ten years and they do develop a patina over the years. Excellent boots which are comfortable from the off. Enjoy

Unfortunately they don't stock them in my size so I had to custom order them which takes a good deal of time. Since I had to pay the custom up-charge anyway I also have them being made with a regular sole instead of of the standard double leather sole and scotch-grain leather.

Very nice boots. Finally got a chance to wear my C&J Cottesmores. Exceedingly comfortable and well made. Damn near artistry.
