    Default Star Shaving Laptop Strop

Is the Star Shaving laptop strop a good option to begin with? I can see how having a flat surface would make stropping much easier initially. Its also fairly wide at 3 inches.

I'm also considering their 2 inch leather strop, but that seems a bit narrow. I have a vintage Dubl Duck Pearlduck Special No1 (plan on using that once I'm confident I wont slice it up) that is 2 1/2 inches and its a bit difficult to see how stropping on anything narrower than that would be practical.

I like the Big Daddy hanging strop. I currently own two, one for home and one for work.

The Star Shaving 3" bench strop is a good choice for a beginner.

    1. It's always best to start with a 3" strop. It's hard enough to learn the mechanics of stropping without having to add the complication of the x stroke on a narrower strop.

    2. A bench strop is easier to learn on. It's stable and you don't have to worry about holding it taut.

    3. It's inexpensive and you're likely to destroy your first strop.

Once you get better with practice, the Star Shaving Big Daddy is a good first hanging strop.

I just dropped the hammer on a "Big Daddy" due to the response it got with some reviews here.
It will be my first "real" strop after the poormans kit - That's yet to get a nick on it, so I thought it was time to get something nicer.
Converted to straights...that didn't take long at all...
