    Default Holster Repair/conditioning

I have a few old holsters and handcuff keepers (as well as others) that I've inherited from my father after he passed from when he was on duty. It's been about 13 years since they have been used and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what I should use to recondition these items. I know one holster has been ripped right at the belt loop catch (for lack of better terminology) rendering it useless. Would it be repairable?

I assume they are leather? Leather New works really well, it won't damage the stiching either. I've gone to it exclusively on my saddles and tack, it's not greasy and doesn't stain or darken the leather. I believe Wal-Mart carries it now.

Yes I forgot to mention they are leather. One of them has ripped where the belt insert is (along the top next to the seam). The other is flaking on the inside, but thats natural from having to pull a pistol out of the holster numerous times for felony stops =)

Photos might help. Some shoe repair shops can make simple leather repairs. A gun shop might be another place. As for reconditioning, I like Pecard products. Google Pecard Leather. They have an "Antique Conditioner" for old leather. I've used it and like it.

Don't take them to a gun shop for repair, very few places have a leather craftsman on hand. Take them to either a saddle shop or to someone who specializes in such things.

Really good leather conditioner. It will turn lighter colors darker.

Some find the smell of Ballistol nasty. Just a heads-up.

I take my duty gear to a shoe maker if you have one near by.

+1 on Pecards, saddle maker, and shoe maker. Good luck!

Mink oil works great on anything leather. As for the repair I would think that any leather shop could take care of the problem.
