To me, Sharks and Astras are about the same, but still a step behind the feathers. Feathers have been the best for me, but I use them all.

+1. I appreciate my Shark SC's and Astra's as they are comparable and give excellent shaves, but are a slight step down performance wise. When you add price into the equation, then the Shark's and the Astra's have an edge overall imo.

IMHO, the Gillette Blacks are amazing. I think they're just as sharp as the Feathers, and I can get 4 to 5 shaves easily per blade, where I can only get 2 with a Feather.

Definitely agree here. Blacks are a bit pricey, too. Often you'll see them priced out the same as their brethren, but for a smaller qty like 70 or so vs 100.

My experience has been pretty much the same as this. I can get a decent enough shave out of an Astra, but within a few hours (4-5) I feel growth. Using a Feather or other mentioned, it is like twice that timeframe.

I think it's all been said; Astras, Personna Meds or Gillette blacks.

    General Observations....Feathers vs the world...

First of all I cant understand why folks (used in the generic sense) say Feathers are expensive...$27 per hundred? Thats two years of shaves! The difference between two years worth of shaves with a Feather and two years with of shaves with some $9 per hundred Third World crapblade is a 12 pack of Miller! Abstain for one day and you (the universal you not the personal you) too can shave with a Feather!

But no...rather than ditch beer for the day, better to use a crap blade and then spend bandwidth perpetuating interwebz wisdom that Blade X, costing less than a penny per blade and hand hammered by smiling peasants in the Sanjak of Novii Pazar is more "forgiving" than a Feather, whatever that means.

    YMMV...

That being said, I have run through a ton of blades in my life. There is no blade CHEAPER than a Feather that is the equivalent of a Feather. There are more expensive blades though.

Life is too short to cheap out in pampering yourself. Id rather wear one pair of Costco $14 jeans until they wear out than shave with a crap blade or use Arko.

YMMV, rant not directed at anyone in particular

agreed!!! Feathers are far cheaper than cartridges, and though not as cheap as some of the other DE blades, they ar still affordable (for me) to shave with the blade that gives me the closest shave, aside from a well hones/stropped straight razor.

that said, a friend recently turned me onto Personna med/labs (I suspect they are the same blade - though I have no proof... very very similar feel though. and Iridiums I'm also a fan of. in fact personna med/labs and iridiums have recently replaced Astras and 7 O'clocks as my second & third blade choices.

there are still so many I've yet to try too.... for those on a limited budget I can see moaning about feather prices in relation to other blades, but overall. they are well worth their cost for the shave they give.
If you aren't grateful for what you've got, nothing that may be coming down the pike will likely do the trick for you.

I tried 1 Derby from the 5 pack that came with my EJ89. I was going to give the other 4 away but I couldn't think of anyone I disliked enough to do that to. +1 for the Astra Sp.

I like the Feathers too and tried the Derby's a couple times and don't think I will again. The Astra's arent as sharp but I find them very comfortable. I am goig through a lot f blades experementing right now. I've tried a couple Lab blues and I find them to be comfortable after the first few strokes. Not sure why that is. After that they seem to be as comfortable as the Astra's. I also think they are good for one extra shave than the other blades I've tried.

Still new to DE shaving. Been using Astras for 2 months, tried Feathers for a week and I loved. Astras are not even closer when you have thick beard like I do.

For me, 100 Feathers last < 1 year, not 2 years. "Interwebz wisdom" about blades costing less than a penny per blade? Which blades are less than $1.00 per hundred? YMMV unless someone's opinion varies from yours? And then the grand finale...life is too short to cheap out on pampering yourself so buy $14 jeans from Costco. I guess the reference to drinking a 12 pack of Miller fits though.

Other than the Merkur blade which came with my razor, I've only shaved with Feathers. Like previous poster's said it is a lot cheaper than carts and I can get about 5 shaves out of a feather blade. Why fix something that isn't broken?

Still not sold on the Feathers yet (even though I have 50 or so). Need a few more shaves to get use to em.

I would say the Gillette 7 o'clock Yellow Sharp Edge.

I also agree with the comments about the Astra SP's being a step/level below the Feathers. Great blade though.
