    Default Discontinued Frag's price increase

Digging through some old boxes of my stuff at my parents house, I came across an old bottle of a Bath and Body works cologne that I received for Christmas some years ago. It's called Bath and Body Works Mountain Frost and comes in a nice blue bottle with a $20 price tag on the bottom.

The bottle was full and it smelled pretty nice, so I figured I'd take it home with me and use it.

Came home and jumped online to see if I could figure out if it was still made or not and all I could find was that it had been discontinued and was going for...get this...$200 a bottle???

Is this a normal thing? Do people get so attached to one particular fragrance that they are willing to pay that much money for it?

I do not know the numbers, but do know that Crabtree & Evelyn discontinued their Lavender Water about two years ago and ebay prices for it are now frightful. And it was good!

"Going for" meaning the asking price? Or is someone actually paying that? There is a huge difference.

+1... Not sure where you see someone asking, but if it's eBay, guess is it's a speculator who's aware it's discontinued and looking for the guy who liked it THAT much. Some of the vendors on Amazon are famous for doing that with discounted product as well. I loved the Zirh Body Bar. It was $15 when in production. I noticed after it was discontinued, some Amazon vendors were trying to sell it for $45.

As Matt said, whether or it alone will pay that is the trick. Perhaps.

Yeah, both on Amazon and Ebay the asking prices were in the 190-200 range. Blew my mind. Even if it has been discontinued, why would you want to be so scummy and charge that kind of money?

I actually remember the line you are talking about. Probably never would have though of it again had you not posted this. There is a bottle of the body spray on ebay for $32 with 8 bids so far. So you probably could sell it for a decent amount. I doubt it will reach the $200 mark though. But I imagine someone out there loves it and wishes they could still get a bottle.

I found Bath and Body Works Woodland, and Mountain Frost at a garage sale for I think $4 each. I too quickly found, that they were selling for a decent amount of money on Ebay.

The most interesting thing, is that Bath and Body Works is not known for producing unique scents. No, most of their men's colognes are meant to be reminiscent of another popular product. More interesting yet, is that often times a discontinued product will simply get put into a different bottle, with a different name, but the internal contents remain unchanged!!

There are definite similarities between their C.O. Bigelow, and Signature Men's Collection for example; both of which are current production, but one would think the C.O. Bigelow line may eventually cease to be stocked.

Anyway, I found the Woodland, and current production Oak smelled nearly identical; so it would be superbly silly to pay a price premium for a cologne that is basically still available!!
