CO Bigelow and Omega have been mentioned so I will recommend Dettol Cool and Godrej Cool Mist. Both are great performing creams from India, if you have any Indian markets near you, they can usually be had for under $3.

I just got the C.O Bigelow cream from Bath and Body Works. I haven't tried it yet, however the smell is interesting. The first thing that came to mind is Vick's Vaporub. I look forward to trying it out though!

I love proraso soap so I bought a C.O. Bigelow cream. It is the only product I can"t create a good lather with. All my other soaps and creams lather great including MWF.

Not to resurrect a dying thread, but it has been bugging me about some folks saying any cream is a good starter cream. In general, I think they are correct, but there are probably some creams that shouldn't be a starter cream. I'm speaking of the "hybrids" or croaps out there. For example, I love QCS creams, but they can be difficult to get a good lather for a beginner. Heck, I still have the occasional bad day with them. There have been long threads on lather difficulties with croaps.

I also have a difficult time with Lavanda cream - I can get a good lather with it, but (for me) it takes more product than it does with my other "tube" creams - like T&H and the old reliable C.O. Bigelow.

In general, I would say most tube creams are a great first cream - you get a better idea of how much cream you'll need to make a good lather (water and all other things being equal). Once you have a tube mastered, move on to tubs. Of course, my opinion only. The usual YMMV.

I just finished off some QCS Vostok. It's thick, like lipbalm, (as opposided to something more fluid like KMF) and it is FROSTY if you really like your menthol. It comes in a sample so you don't have to commit to a huge thingy of it. It's good stuff.

Opps, just read the previous post above the one I just posted. I use the QCS vostok like a cream, instead of loading it in the tub right onto the brush, or scooping a little bit and putting it into a bowl, I'll just scoop and mash a little into my face, wet my brush and just start face lathering. You'll probably need a little more water as you go, but keep at it, swirl, a little water, until you get a later. Not enough product? Adjust it on your second pass etc.

Proraso obviously, non-menthol creams I'd Recommend AOS, TOBS, KMF.
