Oh btw, out of curiousity..... Calling it a "lather beast" I assume you're using this with creams seeing as it's a super silvertip. If I'm wrong and you're using this with hard soaps please correct me. I'd like to know which one it's beasting.![]()

Thanks! I wish I had taken pictures along the way too. I suppose I was more concerned about taking my time and making sure I did the job right my first time out. On the bright side, the VDH brushes are cheap and the TGN knots cost about as much. Better yet, if you have someone kind enough to PIF you one like I did, you really can't beat the price. Truth be told, if I didn't already have the original brush, I could have gotten a similar handle from Whipped Dog for about $6 (only theirs don't have the metal collar). And IMHO, the collar makes the brush since I have the black & silver of the handle matched by the black & silver of the knot.
Well, its maiden voyage was using AoS sandalwood cream. Today, I used C.O. Bigelow cream. Both did extremely well. Tomorrow, I plan on using TOBS sandalwood soap. I'll be curious to see how it performs with soaps too. I'll also be testing it with Arko after that.

As far as the brush goes. I do already own a VDH pure badger just like one you showed you began with. I'm not disappointed nor do I dislike the brush as is. Actually after braking it in it works quite well. Though I would still say its more suited for hard soaps even though I use it for both. Never the less the change you made is undeniably an upgrade and very cool!
Thanks for letting me know what you used it with and what your plan of attack is moving forward. Please post your opinion of the brush and how it lathers with your TOBS soap. Also I'd like to hear your overall thoughts after this first few days/week with the new brush. It makes for good reading![]()

Very nice job!

I wanted to check in with my TOBS results as you requested. I soaked the puck and the brush while I showered. When I started to load the brush, I definitely noticed that the bristles are much softer than I was used to. As a result, while it was possible to use a hard milled soap like TOBS with this brush, the results were... adequate. It would appear that creams & tallow based soaps are where this thing really shines. As for the harder soaps, I'll stick with my Edwin Jagger. On the bright side, I now have a justification for keeping my old EJ brush around.
You have a real beauty there!
