Well, like I said, I'm still waffling on weighting the handle.

I'll probably finish the restore and use it before I decide. This one will be easy to weight after the fact if I choose to.

In my experience though, putting a fresh, dry, hollow handled brush into a sink of water floats the entire brush not just the handle. At least until you get the knot wet enough to sink. And once the knot is wet enough to sink, it will whether the handle is heavier or lighter than it is.

In fact, it was using a hollow handled brush that got me switch to a bowl to soak the brush quite some time ago.

Well either way you do it it will be a great looking brush. I really love the look of the butterscotch/black color combination handles & with the right hair colored knot it can just become pure sex!!!

Ok. I'm done trying to decide weather or not to put a weight in the handle.

For now anyway. I've buttoned this one up as my first restore job. Things I can still do if I elect to are to try and fill the lettering better, and add that weight to the handle if I choose to going forward. But for now, I'm going to use the darn thing.

I ordered the knot from TGN on Friday morning, and it was waiting for me when I got home yesterday!

Today I set the knot down to about 52mm loft. It has plenty of backbone and the first 'seat of the pants' feel (with my calibrated forearm) is very promising.

Looks really good, you should enjoy it very much, I love the TGN finest knots.

Well ... after first use, I have to say I'm already a big fan of the TGN finest knots. Crazy amount of backbone that seems to carry almost all the way to the very tips of the hairs, yet there's virtually no 'scritch'. Very nice.

Now that I'm so aware that the TGN finest isn't simply another pretty face, I'm sure this won't be my last knot from them.

Really nice job! Congrats. From the caliper photo, it looks like the black top comes off of the amber base. Does it unscrew?

    Thanks guys.

That Ever-Ready has a lot of potential.

And ... yes. The bottom and top screw apart on the Rubberset. That's how I was able to put off the decision to weight, or not weight the handle till later. :)

Very nice. I just restored the same handle. I glued 4 pennies over the hole in the bottom of the handle and then set the knot on top of it. Gives it good balance. Made it 24x50. I also used a TGN 22mm 2 band finest.

From here, the next step will be to get rid of the shelf and open the hole 3mm or so. Guess I'd better make a decision on the size of the knot I want to use for it before I get too carried away.

After that it'll be on to smooth the rough bits and get rid of the mold lines, possibly followed by filling the lettering again on the front.

Then while I hope to be waiting for my knot to arrive ...
How did you get rid of the mold line?

i did a similar one and always remove the mold line. not sure what the OP used, but i use foam sanding pads. you use them dry or wet (i use them wet) and they form to the shape. sand away until it's gone.

gives it a much cleaner and sleaker look.
